Thinking about breeding my female soon. Need advice.

So my female will be 1 next month and we always thought that we would try to breed them on valentines day to try to be romantic lol. My question is should I wait for her to have an infertile clutch before I attempt to breed? Or will pairing them next month be ok since she will be of age?

no need to wait for her to lay an infertile clutch its actually good that she hasn't laid before. Just remember to keep you temps a little lower and don't offer A LOT of food because you don't want her to have a huge clutch. But to answer your question yes you can breed her when she becomes of age.

hmmmm not that i could remember in all my days of research on breeding, Of course if the female is like really tiny i wouldn't even think of breeding her but if shes a year old, has a good diet and has the proper husbandry she should be of average size thus being breeding size.

Yes it does. I hate the whole wait for one year parroting. Size should be the determining factor. A cham can be full grown before a year or not ready to breed at a year depending on husbandry and species.

As for feeding. You do not want to be over feeding her a while before you breed or she may lay a huge clutch that can be taxing on her or even cause egg binding. Once gravid she should be fed really well so she can have enough nutrients to produce the eggs and stay healthy.

I've had females receptive at 5 1/2 months but I wouldn't breed em. My rule of thumb with females is 50+ grams and over 8 months minimum.

i agree with jared size should be a big factor an thats what i use more then the waiting a year. also great advice on the feeding dont need to add nothin there
