The latest addition - a puppy!

Ok, so we ended up going with a different breed of dog! OH wanted a malamute, but I really can't handle them so we decided to go with another. We ended up choosing this little girl, who we have called Piper. She is (allegedly) a collie terrier cross and 10 weeks old. Her and her brothers and sisters were dumped, we believe by the side of the road, and taken to a rescue. She is your typical puppy, all she wants is attention and cuddles, but we are trying to be careful as we don't want her too dependant on us! Needs to be happy with her own company!

OMG she is adorableeeeeee :D have fun while she's still a bundle of joy, and keep posting pictures of her please

Aww so cute! I love the ears! She's going to be one really smart dog with that mix :D

I don't know if you're interested, but we just adopted a shelter puppy two weeks ago and we bought a book by Cesar Milan (the dog whisperer) called "How to raise the perfect dog" and it's been suuuuper helpful. I wish it would have been out when I bought my other dog two years ago, I really recommend it!

We have a couple of dog training books, plus "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey. I also have a friend who is doing a dog training course, so thankfully she's around to help too! It is hard work - she hates being alone, and would scream for hours at night, so we now have her crated in the bedroom with the plan to work her out slowly. She is quite good, she can stay in for about 6 hours, which i think is good for her age. Having seen that picture, I can now see the collie in there. I was wondering how they thought that, especially as they were abandoned. She is quite smart too, picks thinkgs up quickly, and really pushes her luck!! :D

Aww the whinning at night is the worst! We're lucky that our last two puppies settled right in and never made a peep at night, but I had a dog once that did it for weeks! It helps to get them riddiculously tired during the day, if you can take her jogging or rollerblading for a good hour or two late in the afternoon she should be too tired to do anything but sleep at night.

Really cute dog. What a shame some a--hole dumped her and her littermates on a hwy! Some people should be taken out and shot.

I agree completely. We just found out that our rescue puppy's mother was euthanized because when they found her and the 6 pups, she was so neglected and malnourished that she was too far gone to save. So our pup had her mom for 3-4 days before they were rescued and she had to be put down. I don't know how people can be so savage and ignorant.

The rescue we got her from is near where there are lots of puppy farms, so often get the puppies that aren't sold for various reasons, plus the the exbreeders, dumped on them. It's heartbreaking to read the stories on the website. Some of these exbreeding dogs are 3 years old. Its so sad, you do wonder where society is going.
