Texas People! Plant Advice!

Hello Texas People! The heat has been killer hasn't it? It is 106 right now :(
Anyway, I was wondering what plants you have that are cham safe and can survive outdoors and in this heat partly. I had a umbrella plant outdoors, and I accidentally left it out in the sun and not in shade for a day and Im not sure it will make it.
Any suggestions?

At those temps your cham won't be able to be outdoors either. I'm not quite sure I understand what you want...are you looking for a plant for a temporary outdoor cage? If so, I'd go to a local garden center and ask what types of bushes handle your particular yard location's sun and heat well. You could either plant the bush in the ground or use a heavy pot and set the cage frame down over it from the top, or build the cage around the plant. If you leave the plant in the ground it will protect the roots from heat a bit better.

If you are looking for a cage plant that can be moved in or outdoors that would be trickier. Most of the plants we use for cham cages are fairly tropical and won't do well in that extreme heat or dryness. Some sort of citrus tree might work, but they will want very bright light when indoors.

Yea, sadly not :( Not over 100 right?
Im just looking for something that won't die right of the bat. However I think Ill just go and ask the people at Lowes and find something to put in a pot. Thanks so much! :)

Almost none of the plants I use for the cham cages would work outside during the summer. I do keep a schefflera on the porch but it is in the shade 90% of the time and i keep it well watered. I have given up on most of the plants I have tried and am settling on pothos for the majority of my cages. They grow incredibly well in low light and dont seem to have any problem with over watering from the dripper. The only maintenance with these things is that I always have to cut them back after a few months or they overgrow and take up all the room in the cage.

hibicus works great make sure and put it in a huge pot with lots of extra Eco earth and water crystals mixed in and it will last you all summer full sun or shade. But at the temps we have right now I wouldn't take your cham outside unless its early in the morning before it gets hot.... Hope that helps.

Seeco said bougainvillea. I haven't looked at the safe plant list for that one. I use pothos and schefflera also. Outside they must stay in the shade or part sun and keep them two or three feet up off the patio or ground so the reflected heat doesn't burn them. I have a three-tier riser that I put them on when outdoors for sun. It only gets a couple of hours direct sun and that's about all they can take. But really, they should be alright in the cham home with enough light and water so why take them out?
Well it's not listed on Brad's Safe Plant List here on the forum but it is on FLChams safe list. It does appear to be an outdoor plant, primarily in dry, harsh, even desert conditions.

bougainvilla is on the safe list but an outdoor plant. I was looking at them 'cause the post exchange had some here but they require just about as much sun as hibiscus. I'm going to get a plant light this weekend since i had to move my 2 hibiscus inside.
