Does anyone know who breeds these and how to take care of them.? I was hoping, as I get some more chameleons, that I can start breeding more bugs and not buying as many. I heard isopods were good, as well as stick bugs, but don't know where to start looking for them. And also don't know how to care for them as well. Any help.?

i got my isopods from spiffybugs.com (forum member pssh)

Do you breed them.? How do you take care of yours.?
And does your chams like them.?

i use them in my gargoyle gecko enclosure... so.. maybe? I never have tried to feed them...

i just keep them in a most tub w/soil. have a bunch of old sticks/leaves and throw in my dead feeders and some other scraps.

keep them moist and they take care of themselves.

Wild ones are high in heavy metals I believe, which is bad for chameleons in large quantities. I think you have to raise them on something else if you want to feed them more than once-twice a year.

how big do cb terrestrial isopods get approx? Is it only good for smaller chams or suitable for larger chams? such as panthers/vields/

Where I live they do seem to be a bit bigger than wild ones, not bigger than 'small' size Dubias though. My one year old female Veiled still eats them. My male never really liked them anyway...........
Good job he will eat stick insects. I keep them both at the moment, but have just a few isopods ('woodlice' in English :))
And just a few sticks, but got a hundred or so eggs in last week so wish me luck.............:)

So an adult would be fine on the isopods.?

I need to find some to get.

As a one off you could try feeding one wc bug (get the biggest you can find and keep it well fed and warm for a week) They are probably too small for the bigger chams though really, they would likely just ignore them and wait for a 'proper' sized food item to arrive..........
Depends on how enthusiastic your cham is I guess :)

i breed my own isopods and i started off from wild ones i them from outside with now mites on them and then out them in a container with eco-earth and let put a small piece of cardboard on it and a few pieces of old lettuce and old carrot and they ate it but the cardboard got cover in poo and there are tons of little newborn white ones in there

I use white dwarf isopods in all of my crested gecko cages, they clean the cages up for me so i dont have to poop pick constantly, il feed them to a cham occasionally, it makes for a good snack for the cresties when they can catch them, they are pretty sneaky
