Switching to a bigger cage

I am trying to figure out when it is appropriate to switch my cham over to his adult cage. He is about 4.5 months old now and maybe 4 inches. What are the normal guidelines? I know he can wait until he is about a year to put him in another cage but I would like to do it as soon as is possible so I can get my final setup with his girlfriend going.

probably move him into a 18x18x36 cage. then when he is fully grown put him into a 2x2x4. hope this helps.

The breeder I got my male panther from, told me to move him to his adult cage at 8 months of age. The cage should be 2x2x4 at least. My boy is the same age as yours. So he is still in his baby cage.

Andy, my adult cage is 36 X 30 X 18 and my cham has done well in it since about 4 1/2 months old. I do however, freerange him alot on my patio so he has plenty of time outside of the cage. I am not planning on getting a 24X24X48. This is what my breeder keeps her adult chams in. Just another option for you.

I'd put him in there right now without problem. I just got myself a 3 month old panther and he's living full time in the free range below, and that's something like 5'w x 2'd x 8't:

I've been doing this for the last 2 weeks I've had him and he's been doing fantastic in the natural sunlight. I hand feed him about half his food for the day and let the remaining half go on the screen and he picks them off as we wants, and even with all this space he manages to catch absolutely all of them. So your guy in a 2x2x4 cage will do just fine. If they can manage to survive in the great expanses of the outdoors, they can definitely handle hunting for crickets in a 2x4 cage

If you're uncomfortable with that idea, they can be moved to that size at about 6 months. 6-8 is the norm, I think.

gosh, you had me worried there at first! Until I read the print(I just looked at the picture) It does not look like there is any screen in the pictures!! lol!

Lol I know! Everyone says that when they see the photos, but both my balconies are completely screened in. I wouldn't leave them out there otherwise! But I love it because I can leave them out there in turns and I know they're outside getting sunlight but aren't in danger of running away or being picked off by another animal (and they love it too!)

I know, I live in florida too and I have a big screened in patio. I have these great nautical ropes draped throughout and my chameleon loves it out there! I just went to bring him in and he wouldn't let go of the rope! I suppose he could just spend the night out there, but I feel better having him sleep inside his cage where I know he is safe and sound!
