my female veiled cham is on her basking spot and has had her mouth open for around 10mins??? is it time to worry??

Welcome to the forums.

How old is she? You probably have her too hot. I recently raised a clutch of veileds and put together some info for the new keepers and thought this link would be helpful for you. It tells you everything you need; how to use it and shows a link with a picture and where you can buy it from. The second link it about egg laying and the laying bin.

lol..What are her basking temps? I find that veileds LOVE to bask and sometimes prefer to stay and just help regulate their temps by opening their mouths..Similar to the way a dog will..I WOULD however be careful as to how close she can get to the heat source.. As long as she has a cool spot to go to, don't worry about it..If she is that hot, she will move..

u have my gratitude!!!

iv never seen her do it before, but the temp is about 90º and is usually between 79º - 85º surely it cant be comfortable for them??
she is also a tad bit darker green, runner bean green, she is 2.5, she has a big dripper and i mist her sometimes 3-4 times a day!!! today it seems abit hotter for her, i use 60w basking lamp about 2 inch above her mesh and she is maybe 1.5inch-2inch below mesh. i use a repti glow 5.0 uvb/uva which is recomended.

90 is way too hot. I keep my female veiled in the low 80's. The blog above will give you some good info on keeping a female.

My first female would sit in the sun with her mouth open, even though she had shade to retreat to and cool off. Sometimes they just don't realise (or are too stubborn to) they are that hot and should move to cool off! I used to have to move her whole cage in to stop her from overheating. 90 is too hot for a female, Jann is right, she should be kept in the low 80's.
