Still so restless :/

My female veiled has been pacing her cage for nearly three days now. She is approx 24 days into her pregnancy, and has only pawed at her sand once or twice. She is mainly just walking laps all over her cage, top to bottom. Is it typical for her to behave this way for the past three days? Or should I begin to get concerned?

Some females will get restless especially when they get full of eggs and uncomfortable.
how deep and big is her sand bin?

She has a large bucket filled 11 inches high of sand. She just seems to have no real interest in digging yet, mainly just curiosity in the sand from what I can tell. She has also been scratching her belly against the screen of her enclosure, so maybe it is just discomfort. It is her first clutch of eggs, so I'm sure she is as nervous as I am! She has had no food for about 2 days, and this is very new to her, as well.

I dont know how long it takes for females to start laying once mated, but if its aroudn that time she could just be preparing to lay.
if she is past that time, and she still hasnt layed, you may need to sort of 'force her'
and by this i mean put her in a huge clean trash can, filled with sand, and a branch or two, that she cant climb out of, start a hole for her, and leave her there till she lays.

This is true. Normal Veiled time is usually 30-40 days, but can be as soon as 21. If she stays like this too many more days without eating and non-stop pacing (Usually from 10 a.m. till 1 a.m.), I guess I will just play mean mom and make it the only thing available. I just wanted her to make this easy! :)

HAHA! chams never make anything easy. Especially females when laying.
If you expect something to go wrong, nothing does, if you dont expect anything to go wrong, everything does.

Oh goodness. Then she should be spitting these babies out of the easy bake oven and have 10 perfectly healthy babies in 5 1/2 months... She has me reading everything that could go wrong and automatically thinking that's her! haha

Haha! Ive done that too, to myself, to my chams, to all my other animals!
Sometimes you get too much info and its just a bad thing!

Exactly... Knowledge can be a blessing and a curse... This site helps because I can bounce my ideas off of actual individuals who have had all kinds of experience! Thank you for your input, I am probably just worrying too much.

No problem! Ive done that too.
and if I find a female hoehnelli to breed my male too, im going to do the same thing, even more so because hoes are live bearers!

Could you post a picture of those? I do not believe I even know what one is! Live-bearing would be fantastic lol

lol! i like the live bearing thing. seems less stressful on the female. :p

for some reason the computer at my school is being dumb. find my thread titled shower time for the boys.
the first cham on my hand is Kermit, my male Hoenelli, he is 6 months old.
then theres pics of my veield, Kink.

It may be less stressful on the female, but I think i twould be more strsesful on me, cuz i could come home from work and find 10 babies all of a sudden!
at least with eggs, you knwo when they should start to hatch. lol

Do you have a hole started for her? Sometimes that helps them to start or they fill it in but a lot of times they continue in that hole.

Can she get in and out on her own? (are you the one with the ladder)

Lily paced a lot before she laid and did cut way back on eating about 5 days prior. It was her first clutch too. it is stressful. I think more for us than them:rolleyes:

I went ahead and dug her a few small holes, but she still said "nope, more fun watching you fret!". She has a large branch and stump that allow her to climb in and out of the laying bin. She wanted nothing to do with the ladder, but my male is very happy that she gave this item up! I hope she lays at any time... she is huge!
