I've been meaning to take some photos of my star tortoises, and finally got around to it today. I didn't spend much time, but these have got to be the most amazing looking tortoises I have seen. I picked up the smaller 3 at the Pomona show. The lower photo is of two of them from below (almost looks better than from above).

Man they are beautiful, They almost look like something that was hand made. The last picture looks like a couple of masks. Very nice.

Hey Tyler,
They are very pretty and interesting. Almost look like inlaid wood turtle sculptures. How big do they get?

Nice Stars Tyler. I have a pair of Sri Lanken Stars. My big girl is 10 inches and the males is about 5.5-6 inches. I've had them for about 6 years now.

Thanks, glad you like them. Very nice torts, Ancient. Have they bred for you at all? The stars don't get very big - the Sri Lankans get a little bigger than the ones I have, but generally 10-11" is a good sized female, with males a little smaller. I'm still hoping to expand with another 4-8 of these. The breeding is slow (small clutches) and they're somewhat of a fragile tortoise (from what I understand), but I'm gonna give it a go and see what happens. The two that I think are females that I have are probably still a few years too young to breed yet, and I'll probably sell off one or two of the males.

Hey Tyler- They have bred here the last four years. I understand they have bred for the previous owner for about 5 years before they got here. They needed a couple of years to get acclimated to Cali weather coming from New york. I usually get her to double clutch so I get about 8-10 babies a year from her. Good luck woth yours. There's nothing prettier than a baby star.
