Spring Butterfly Projects!

Here are some photos of my spring butterfly projects!

Some 3 day old buckeye butterfly caterpillars testing out a new chow I have formulated JUST for them! Hopefully it will be usable for others who want to raise these in their home or fun or for feeders. They are teensy weensy.

A photo of one of my cabbage white butterflies that will be the founding stock for this years colony. This one is a male. (Pay no attention to my skeleton hands)

Here is a photo of a beautiful male orange sulpher I caught. He will promptly be released as soon as it is done raining here to help the smaller population.

And finally here are two west coast lady caterpillars that I am raising to adulthood. Couldn't get any clear photos. The first is hanging in a "J" position getting ready to pupate. The other is only a few days behind.

Very cool! I have started getting into breeding hornworms lately and really like seeing the payoff. Its gotten so I spend almost as much time trying to breed bugs as caring for the chams.

Aren't the insects neat? You learn to like them, and sometimes even start a new hobby because of them!

I will have a few cups of buckeyes soon. I will need them to be allowed to pupate and have pictures taken (and weights if possible) though so that I can see how the chow does. Wanna help? Free extra chow and I'll teach you how to breed them and send a host plant for them to lay on when the time comes.
