I clean cut my zip ties with a razor blade... So there is no sharp edge hanging out.

I cut mine and then burn the cut end so there are no sharp edges.

That's a good idea but I'm afraid I'd set the whole little forest ablaze so I may attempt to trim them down more/better, or even look for another solution altogether

In all seriousness a grill lighter would probably be good for this.

I use a grill lighter for sure on mine.
