I'm no chameleologist, but I have some observations and a question or two for those who may know just out of curiosity.

- What is a chameleon's understanding of space?

It's clear that they understand "inside" vs. "outside" and when the door is opened or something is intruding on their home (say your hand for instance) but recently something odd happened.
I just changed Chammy's cage (pictures coming soon, and yes, still working on a name) out for a brand new one with a Ficus and plenty of much more thought out amneties. But something strange happened... He started climbing the walls! Alot! And just one wall at that. He is just small enough to climb the fine wiring of the screen, but I certainly don't want him hurt or anything.

Here's what I observed alongside this unusual and sudden behavior - he is very eager to get out of the cage (will happily climb onto you) and he also tried to go all the way down to the bottom, feeling all around the inside edges of the cage (to find a way out?), some very odd stuff.

Here's what I think it was (and I'm still trying to figure it out) on his old cage he had some tarp wrapped around most of the way, this one he didnt it was a 360 degree view out! So recently I installed a shower curtain and I plan on observing for any wall climbing that may occur now that he can only really see out in one direction.... which leads me to wonder... does he feel MORE or LESS comfortable with the tarping? It has a design that you cannot see thru and it helps keep humidity and spray in... but is he feeling suddenly like his world is covered uncomfortably?

What is his understanding of space?
Very good climbers, they seem to have a decent understanding of depth and distance, but what makes him (potentially) want to climb the walls when suddenly he can see all around?
