if some of you recall about a month ago, i stated kiwi was gravid due to recognizable night time behaviors. i put a sand bucket in the next day, she didn't appear to be showing egg outlines in her belly, so i assumed it was a close call. anyhow, the laying bin filled with water after about a week from the mistking, i took it out and never ended up replacing it.

i've been hearing "clump clump" all night, thinking the noise is from my cresties being stupid and jumping across their cages. i took a flashlight to see kiwi has been free dropping her whole clutch tonight. ive counted 30 so far, shes still awake and pushing. and are all infertile which i thank God.
I'm very disappointed in my neglect, and i will never let this happen again. but i am thankful she has been comfortable enough to just drop them. and i have been moving around in my room all night.

she looks very relaxed, her color is well and she is as if she was sleeping on her perch. I love this girl, she definitely whops ass! i heard another clump so im assuming 31 now. i took the liberty of putting a sheet over the front of the cage anyways.

i am going to take her to a vet on tuesday for x-rays to make sure. that wont be to late for an oxytocin if needed.

Wow!! Well at least she's doing alright and now you know you've to be more on top of it. What an awesome girl you have!

im feeding her a kangaroo tomorrow
she deserves it

whew! thats a close one..at least you ackknowlege what you could have done a lil more! shows that you are at least a lil more attentive to your chams than you think..and also means you chams are comfortable..at least you have a chance for some real eggs still(i cant wait for mine..my female just laid 34 unfeties a week ago)..

Hope she's okay!

Next time put a tent shaped roof over the sand container so that the water will not fill it up. :)

Well you dodged that bullet, but if you are not more careful, you may not dodge the next one. We have to take good care of the chams entrusted to us.

Wow, you and Kiwi have been lucky.........maybe keeping a laying bin in at all times isn't just for amateurs :D
She does need a reward, but I've tried kangaroo and I reckon she'd prefer waxworms.......;)
And don't beat yourself up, save that for the jabronis - as long as you can learn from your mistakes you're doing all you can.

well..... here she is perfecto this morning, walking around, drinking. she looks great. eyes nice and full and a nice (much more)thin looking tummy.
ill feed her when i get home after church. going to get some nice treats, as kiwi is a little on the thin side.

deffinately learned my lesson here, though i should have at least put something in there when as she became more active the last few days. thank you guys for all of your interest and care to her, and for not beating me up! lol
have a good day everyone, ill keep ya all posted

I give you a lot of credit for admitting your mistake! There are not many ppl that can do that, especially in writing to an entire forum of ppl! I am very happy this worked out for you and Kiwi! :)

It is good when people admit their mistakes, because everyone else can learn from them. Maybe you just taught someone else a lesson on here! Glad she was able to lay and did not become eggbound.

the only lesson i want to prove is that NOT all chameleons are the same, and as carol brought up, is lucky she didnt become egg bound. if kiwi didnt have the comfortbility personality in her, she could have very well became egg bound. if this was kiwi's first time laying, it would have been a disaster.

forum, stay on top of your females. though i consider kiwi and i very blessed, females are a lot more work, and if you let little simple things like this slide more than often, you are bound to run into major problems and higher vet bills than a monthly mortgage. lol.

todays progress.

i have bought 3 fresh born pinky mice and offered it to kiwi. WHY? because she is very thin, and like any female, has lost alot of nutrients and vitamins during gestation. i always like to feed a vertabrate after a clutch lay to boost her up vitamin levels up then proceed with plain calcium only for a month. i will never use fuzzies or small mice due to the bone density. She is a smart cookie and only ate the one, refused the other 2. (i take it she wanted to share with my amieva and tokay. she has also eaten 2 supers after wards, and i have crickets in a cup for her. she is drinking great and finnally not so restless.
