So am I using the wrong lighting??

I was told the Powersun 100W would be good for my little Veil... I see in alot of the posts that most people use ReptiSun 5.0 I don't have a real big cage for him and there's not alot of room for a UVB light, basking, and a night heat ele... thats why i went with the SunPower, i used one for a tort and he did great... any help would be great.

Watch your temps and you should be fine. This board likes to break heat from UVB and there are good reasons to do that. However, you are providing what your chameleon needs with the Powersun 100W .

I started out using that same bulb. The only reason I changed was that sometimes it's good to be able to turn off the heat but keep the UVB.

Now...cage size might be an issue. Veiled are pretty good sized animals so you can't keep him in a small cage forever. If you are just using this while he's a baby, that's not a problem at all. In fact, there are a lot of arguments in favor of starting with a smaller cage then graduating to a "big boy" cage.

That might be a bit warm. Depends on how old your youngster is. If he's really little, you might want to raise the bulb up to get a basking temp of 83, 84 degrees....the really little ones need cooler realms.

It also sort of depends on what "in the 70's" means...if that's 78, then you definitely want to cool things down. If it's 72, you're probably fine just as you are.

its really close to 90 so i'd say 88 to 90 depends on where i point my temp gun... but also he can move away from the heat.. the tank is pretty tall... he's about 6 or 7 inches from the tip of his head to tail

Tall is good! Again, what is "in the 70s"? Is that 78, 79 or is it 71, 72?

See how different that is? My thinking is the bottom of the enclosure should be room temperature.

If you have that, then yeah, you're okay for a while.

Just for information, a really good measurement to try to get (in some low stress way) is nose to vent because that's a better measure of the size of your chameleon. Tails can be a bit varied. You don't need to drag him out and put him on a ruler, but at some point when you have him out it would be good to photograph him with something measurable in the picture (not your hand unless you include a picture of your hand with a ruler!!!). I'm thinking things like soda cans, beer bottles...stuff like that which people can use as a reference (best: a ruler!).

I'll check tomarrow to see what the temp is at the lowest part of
The cage.... I don't think it was in the low 70s cause my house was hotter
Then that... So I'd say ya room temp at the lowest part.

Then you're probably fine.

While the board has a standard recommendation, it's not the only way to do things.

I think you should post pictures because I love to look at young chameleons...they are so cute.

Ok great...... Thanks for all your help... I was worried about that.
Yes I will try and get some pics... Very cool little dude... Ate out
Of my hand this morning...
