Sneak Preview of cage

My drainage system. I driled 2 holes at the bottom of the cage and put this under it. Also lifted the floor at the front part of the cage so water naturally flows to the back.

Well, I used plywood for the floor to make it ridged but I then covered the plywood with FRP board. That's the stuff you put on the wall in your bathroom if you only have a bath tub but you want a shower. Any way, I covered the plywood with waterprof FRP board and sealed all corners and cracks with GE windows and doors silicone.

Posted a 3rd pic ^^^^^

I put it on a little thicker than I needed to but better safe than sorry right :)

I framed it out of PVC trim boards. And used an actual screen door for the door. Just cut it down to the size I needed and moved the bottom board up to where I needed it then I replaced the actual screen with black aluminum screen.

Looks good overall just with my past custom aquarium stand building I'd just be worried about water getting between your plumbing and the plywood and causing it to expand and separate! I can't quite tell from the pick how good it's sealed of just occasionally watch the caulk and make sure it's not separating and allowing moister in! Love the screen door idea for sure I gotta get going on my new build haha

Looks good.. im just weird about wood in my cham cages.. it rots, reatains disease waste and mold. just make sure to try and keep it dry if possible.. maybe stain it or somthing to prevernt water saturation!

I was worried about the water leak thing too. I'll stay on top of it. If I seal it good enough it should not be a problem. The screen door was the cheapest one at the lumber yard. I think it was like 25 bucks. Next time I build one I am going to use actual window screens for the side screens. I have 2 chams comming on Friday so I am going to put a window scren in the middle of this cage, guess it's going to be a condo. lol.

yup me too. Absolutly no wood exposed anywhere. There is FRP board covering all plywood. FRP board is like fiberglass. Only exposed material is FRP and PVC. Absolutly no absorptun of water, bacteria, smell, rot or mold. FRP and PVC are mold resistant.

Did not even have to paint it.

I could actually, I have several ideas on how to improve it further and to build it cheaper...

Really.? How much would it cost me if I paid you to make something like this.? I really think this idea is sweet. But then again, I was looking at making one large cage and put two divisions in it to make three cages. Hmmm...I really do love how awesome your cage looks though.

I was also considering building a cage that has removeable deviders.. lol

I have that all figured out as well. lol. Just make a frame, put screen around it and velcrow the bottom, back and top. Put a top brace in so there is something to velcorw the top to and VOWALLA!! Removeable sections!!.. lol.
I am sure I will wind up using this on the next cage I build for myself.

IdK about the price... if you are serious pm me and we can look into it.

Some things that could be done differantly in order to cut costs...

1. I bought the screen door from LOWES. It was the cheapest fiberglass screen door they had, I think it was like $25 or $30. Then I cut it to the size I wanted, moved the bottom board up and replaced the actual screen with black screen.

One idea to save money would be to do this for all three screen sides.

2. To cut cost even further and still have a nice factory look....
One could construct the cage out of actual window screens and just trim them out to make the cage look nice and finished.

Both of these ideas would be cheaper than all of the PVC trim boards that I used. And still have a great finished look that would look nice in your living room.
