Snakes Galore

Yesterday at the Tucson show I couldn't help but notice that the number of snakes for sale was much more than any other reptiles or amphibians. Just wondered why-are (some) snakes easier to bred and their clutches much larger? And that's why there are more for sale? There was a vendor who had cornsnakes that were buy 1 get one free. It almost felt like a snake expo. (I have nothing against snakes, I am just wondering.)

Plus snakes were easier to keep healthy and breed, so their successful herpetoculture occurred decades before most lizards, so they have a head start in popularity.

A lot more money to be made from snakes compared to lizards because of that popularity too. I've never seen a $75,000 lizard, but I've seen a ball python morph that high at one point on a price list several years ago... First show I ever went to I saw a $10,000 snake sold in front of my eyes.

Also, don't they have "cool macho man" appeal? Much like a pitbull, walking around with a snake makes people think "ooo...kick ass dude there!". Not so much with a chameleon.
