What would be the effects of having a smaller than normal enclosure for a chameleon?

It depends on the species and the individual animal. Some will just give up and die. Others will be fine. Don't short change females for cage size. My females get the biggest cages--they need the exercise to be able to be fit enough to lay eggs.
