Sleeping Cham Problem

Okay.. so I was just now chillin' in my bed playing MW3. When all of the sudden I see this bright green jolt of lighting barely in my eye sight. Bodhi was sound asleep just seconds before. He was in his greenish blue p.j.'s. I've never seen him run that fast in his life! And he was running at the front of his cage and then started acting like he was panicking. He then went to a plant, not his beautiful color anymore. He has been moving in the weirdest parts of his cage wide awake now. He's towards the front where he never goes. I'm not sure whether he had a nightmare or fell from his sleeping spot. Has anyone experienced anything weird like this before? I'm kind of paranoid and worried now. He hasn't gone right back to sleep. I usually have a towel that covers most of his cage so I can keep the lights on if needed. He's pretty used to his towel going up when lights go out. Most of the time he is already asleep. Right now he is acting like he wants to be near the part that isn't covered. I don't know if he thinks it's time to wake up or is just scared of whatever happened. Hopefully he will go right back to sleep. If not I might have a problem.

So has anyone had a cham panic in the middle of the night? Do you think he possibly fell or had a nightmare? If it was a fall I might take him to the vet to make sure he didn't break anything. Please comment.

That sounds weird. You may want to inspect the cage to make sure he is the only living thing in there. You mentioned playing MW3. Is it super bright? Maybe someone threw a grenade or something and made a huge explosion sound? They can detect low frequency noises like bass.

If not, maybe he fell from his sleeping branch. Just take a look at him to make sure he has no obvious fractures or anything. Generally healthy chameleons are able to take a fall.

As for him having a nightmare, I don't think reptiles dream. I know mammals do. It would be interesting to see Chris Anderson chime in on this.

You might want to consider wrapping his cage when you turn his lights off. That way, you won't have to worry about waking him with a bright light.

Probably some 12 year old kid screaming cuss words at the top of their lungs scared the crud out of him imo.....

My panther is in my room also, I have noticed him to be unhappy when I play MW3 on my computer...I had to stop :(

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male Veiled Chameleon, 2-3 Months old, He as been in my care for about a month or two now.
Handling - About once every 1-2 weeks when I clean his cage.
Feeding - So far he is eating mostly 1/4 to 1/2 crickets. They are gutloaded with Cricket Crack and my own wet blend of apples, oranges, mustard greens, carrots, butternut squash, blueberries, sweet potato, and collard greens. He eats 13+ crickets a day. He is cup fed.
Supplements - He gets Exo Terra calcium w/o D3 every day, Exo Terra Calcium w/ D3 twice a month, Exo Terra Multivitamin or Reptivite twice a month. I alternate between the two multivitamins because of the vitamin a. I also alternate his D3 and Multivitamin every other Sunday.
Watering - He has a mister. I occasionally mist him myself with warm water. His humidity never drops below 60%. I don't see him drink too much but his urates have always been white.
Fecal Description - White urate, his fecal is moist but solid and firm. Very healthy bowel movements.
History - Not much history to go on. He's still pretty young and hasn't had any problems thus far.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - He's in a 2 foot tall Exo Terra right now. He is about to get his bigger screen cage from LLL Reptile. He still won't be able to move in until he gets a little bigger.
Lighting - 12 hours on, 12 hours off. He has a 5.0 UVB and a 25 watt bulb. 40 watts was a little bit higher than comfortable for a baby.
Temperature - His basking spot gets up to 84 degrees at the highest. The rest of the cage is in the high to mid 70's, while the bottom is around 71-72.
Humidity -I have a digital hydrometer. His humidity is mostly in the 60-75% range.
Plants - No live plants. I do have a small Pothos ready for his new cage.
Placement - His cage is at the highest point in my room. On top of the television stand almost touching the ceiling. The only traffic is me. He doesn't pay much attention to me since he is across the room.
Location - Ashland, KY.

Current Problem - Something happened to Bodhi during the night. I'm not sure if he fell or had a bad dream. He was fast asleep and suddenly around 1 AM I saw him jolt across the floor of his cage. He then proceeded to get his daytime colors and is not in his usual spots. It seems like something startled him and he is in shock. He was acting like something was trying to get him. I'm hoping he did not fall. He has never fallen during the night. He does get pretty comfortable and rest his body on his mister hose. I just hope he didn't break anything if that is the case. Thanks so much guys.

hey not all kids cuss i dont i would get in HUGE trouble so i just mute everyone and let them deal with there own crap sometimes its fun to listen to others cuss CRAZY!!!!!! at eachother

Well I just checked on him and he is fast asleep again! I'm going to see if I can get a pic without waking him. I want to make sure he didn't hurt himself.

But yeah I've got some Turtle Beaches. I wasn't wearing them tonight though. I play COD all night, every night and have never seen him do this. Poor little guy. Maybe it was a grenade. Haha. It scared the crap out of me. I just burst off of my bed and probably scared him even more. Right now he's asleep on the door of his Exo Terra. I didn't even think he could get in that spot. Thanks for all of your help! I don't think I can ever have kids. This stress is too much!

I cuss up a storm. I don't ever wear my headphones unless I'm in a party with friends. I get too mad and end up playing worse.

This is where he ended up. This is really weird for him. Does it look like all of his limbs are attached and in one piece?

I'm 21 years old. I cuss because I get mad. Haha. Not because I'm "cool". But yeah those high school kids are annoying when they force it.

Yes his limbs look good. I would look for something else in that cage.

Check him for any black dots which could be a bruise or bite from a cricket.

Did a feeder turn into a beetle? maybe a loose cricket? Or it could have been the light or bass.

Cover him if you don't to keep the light out when you are in the room. Hopefully it was a one time deal.

I'm looking around for a cricket now. He's still acting a little off this morning. Since he is above the tv he can't see any light. I'm not sure if he sees something he wants outside of his cage. My curtains stay shut so he can't see outside. I figured it was the bass last night but he was just now scratching on the side of his cage. I gave him some crickets and he went right back up. I wonder if maybe he was doing that because he was hungry. The only time he explores his cage is when he is waiting on his feeder cup. His cage was covered last night too except for the small part at the bottom. Right now the temp is at 83 degrees so I know he isn't too hot. I'm completely stumped.

The only thing I can think of is yesterday he had his D3. He is always under his UVB light. Could he be trying to tell me he had too much? I didn't give him a lot but since he's so little I'm sure he isn't as good at regulating. What are the symptoms of a D3 overdose? I'm probably paranoid but I want to make sure.

After something happens we tends to analyze everything too much. Watch him and see what happens the next couple of days.

I don't think it was the D3. Chams will be Chams wish I knew what mine was thinking.

He looks good in that pic except where he chose to sleep:rolleyes:

Sounds unusual, mine never wake up in the dark (as far as I can tell :D)........I guess the most likely thing is a cricket bite, but something obviously spooked him.
There's not really anything you can do but keep an eye on him and hope he calms down about it soon :) Try and remember little details in case it happens again so you know what could have woken him........nothing to be paranoid about though....
He seems healthy to me and I can't see any problem with your husbandry.

maybe he had gas... lol... i've seen dogs do that haha!

and it's unusual that this happened, but i don't think it's anything to worry about.
