Since my pic didn't make it in the Photo Contest....

I really liked your picture Alex. However, and i believe this is why it didn't make the final part, chameleon was out of focus. I would have also cropped the picture a little more, to make your chameleon bigger in the picture. Finally, the use of a flash never helps much (or the light was wrongly used if you had a lamp directed towards your chameleon).
It's sad, because your shot had some great parts. First, the pose itself is an unusual one, which is a good thing in my opinion. Second, the background contrasts with the plant and chameleon, which highlights the chameleon. Third, the use of water is nice, but sadly we can not see the droplets. Fourth, the depth for field was pretty good also!
Keep up trying! You seem to have a great taste!

Wowww... I think it looks wonderful. He has awesome green color eyes. I'm learning fast that most cham owners soon become mini photographer How can you not w/ such amazing colors! I better takes down some of that photography advise for myself.

Sometimes even if you post a really good one it seems like you'll still likely lose :\

Also the picture likely did not make it because it looks like you may have hit the ‘auto correct’ button several times. Or maybe just had some odd lighting/flash going on. Only pictures that show the natural coloration of chameleons will make it in the voting stage.

It's a cool shot. Don't hesitate to enter it in other photo competitions. The competition on this board is as worried (or more worried) about the chameleon than the artistic appeal of the picture.
For another competition, I'd recommend some cropping. If you are open to it, I'd be happy to crop it myself to get you thinking about it. (I have a background in photography, I was in customer service at a pro lab for 20 years and my husband was a professional photographer for many years)

The point is you had some advanced characteristics that i usually look for when i am looking at a picture. Sadly, you were missing the most easiest ones (the flash, the cropping, etc). This makes me believe that you have a great potential Alex (and you Laurie as well, Miss "I_believe_she_is_not_a_good_photographer"), and this is exactly why i took the time to comment it! Afterall, learning the basics is much easier than what you did by instinct! So your potential is definately there and i'd keep working on it!
Trace is also very good at commenting pictures! She may not admit it, but she is!
And Eltortu, the fact that the chameleon was partially behind the plant, while still being very easily seen, made the picture look much different than the other regular pictures. This, if you want my opinion, is a good thing! Then again, your taste and comments are worth as much as mines, and we could argue forever about that!

Nobody is bashing the picture... She wants a picture in the contest, all comments posted have been trying to offer tips/suggestions on how to make it in.
