Sick Veiled

Hi, I've had my veiled for about 1-2 weeks now and was wondering if anyone might know whats wrong with him.

* Cage Type - 4 x 3 x 2 cage, with screen on 3 sides on the top, wood on the back.
* Lighting - im using a reptisun 10. long tube, but I was using a 100w Powersun for a week due to the "expert advice" of two different pet stores. Regular 75w house bulb
* Temperature - 96-85 in basking depending where he perches. about 76-80 at bottom? Lowest overnight temp is about 70? Measure the temps with a analog thermometer
* Humidity - My humidity levels are about 50% normally and spike to 70-80 when misting.
* Plants - I have one real Jasmine in there, had a hibiscus but he didnt ever touch it, and a fake ivy vines
* Location - Corner of my bedroom I have a fan but I havent turned it on since I got him .the vents not close to him. About 7 feet off the floor.. Not much traffic besides me.

Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - Veiled, male, not sure of exact age, I want to say 5-6 months but unsure. He is 6-7 inches from head to tail if that helps.
* Handling - I don't handle him, he likes to hiss at me.
* Feeding - I feed him crickets and wax worms. The crickets are gut loaded with premade food plus carrots and assorted greens. He is barely eating. I'm lucky if I can get him to eat 1-2 crickets or 1 waxworm a day. Also he doesn't go down to his feeding dish, I hold it underneath him and he will snipe them off. He has no problems with his tongue.
* Supplements - I've been using repti-cal with d3 2-3 times reptical without 2-3 and mix in herpivite with the cals about 2 times a week.
* Watering - I mist 3-4 times a day. I've never seen him lick water off the branches or leaves but he licks his lips.
* Fecal Description - White runny with solid black/brown. Never been tested for parasites.

* Current Problem - He is constantly "napping" almost all day. I say "napping" but I think it might be his eye is just squinted or closed. They still move around like he is looking around just not open. He does open them when I open his cage door, but not when I mist. When I mist he does the squint not open his eye thing and tries to hide. It seems like he doesn't have much of an appetite either. The first few days soon as I put crickets in his bowl he would race down and gobble em up. I'm wondering maybe he can't see that they are down there. He is pretty bright and colorful at all times. Thanks for your help in advance and sorry about the quality of the pictures.

How can you tell if a cham looks dehydrated???

Petedoggg. U really should fill out the form that the original poster did and start your own thread. It is normal for chams to be a little stressed and not eat very well for a few days after you get them. Making sure they are well hydrated is the important thing to do. Also double check your temps and such because Those are not veileds!!!!

Im not really sure but I would guess Gracilis (graceful chameleon) or Senegal chameleon, I cant really tell:eek: Both of which carry heavy parasite loads if WC usually.

I would take the chameleon to the vet. I don't think he looks well....his tail is thin and I don't like the way his eyes look. I can't tell you what's wrong from looking at him though.

Yoshi...your temps are way too high, and with an analog thermometer I suspect they are higher than you think. I am not a fan of Powersun, and for the moment I would switch it off and use a 60watt lightbulb for basking.

I'm going to reply to Cainschams post, Great advice to petedogg, And yes those are most likely Senegal Chams that dont look too Bad. But I also would assume they have parasites and need treatment.
What Happened to Yoshi, No reply since the original post? Honestly If the Cham was purchased that way you deserve your cash back, You should not have the stress of someone selling the inexperienced such a sickly Cham. I'd Also love to know who it was that sold this to ya. Unless This has all happened since you have owned this Cham. Either way I think a Vet is the only Chance for survival from what we see in the pic's. Sorry, Repost and let us know whats up?

Well my roomate suggested I give him a bath, so I put my hibiscus in the shower and his colors returned to normal. Now his eyes are open far more then before and he is moving around. He also ate his crickets as soon as I put them in. I see no signs of dehydration. His eyes are not sunken and his feces and urine are normal colors. My temps are those of that on raising kitty's blog so I don't see how they are too high. Titan his eyes were open for the first few days, then I noticed him going a little downhill. I removed the powersun about 3 days ago which I think is what did this to his eyes. He is wide awake now and I am very pleased. I'll send an update tomorrow to tell how he is doing.

Yeah Cain is definitely right on with saying that those are senegals or gracefuls. Who sells someone a chameleon and doesn't even know what the breed is anyways? Not that those two breeds aren't awesome but you should get what you are told that you are buying.

Please don't wait.......your new guy needs a check up anyway. Chameleon's go down really fast. I think you are not to far from Orlando and Dr. Alfonso is an excellent chameleon vet.......I drive 2 hours to see him. Check out his website: www.kirkmanareavet.com

Post us some new pic's and I hope you are right. The original pic's you posted honesty portray the Cham to be VERY thin and SUNKEN, could be bad judgment on blurry pic's, So get us some clear ones and lets hope all is well:)

Brad...don't accept defeat on the ID yet...since I posted the first time, I have seen the 4 pictures posted under the other thread and they do look like Senegals now. :) In the first two pictures it looked like there was a small flap there.
