Shipping insects

Probably not the right forum to post under but since it is feeder related...I have a Dubai roach colony and am thinking about starting a hornworm colony also. I want to sell any excess that I might have. What is the best/cheapest/safest way to ship live insects and hornworm eggs? What kind of boxes and containers do I need? And where is the best place to get them?

Most people use big deli cups to ship insects eggs in the large ones

would you put live insects in deli cups as well or just the eggs? I know when they shipped me some crickets (which I will not breed in my house b/c of the smell) they cam in a cardboard box with wire mesh windows.

Imo you can you large deli cups with screen over lid but that matters in quantity like 100 smalls 50 med 25 lg you can vary by size i would use something larger if you are doing 1000 or so that box with egg crate in it sounds right

I'd look at some of the shipping companies like Tsk supply. They sell deli cups in a variety of sizes and shipping boxes heat packs etc....

If your going to be shipping insects you better know the laws of each state your shipping to because some states have laws against shipping some insects. Ie Florida-no roaches Unless your going to be breeding on a lg scale you can prob find a shop or two locally that would buy roaches and horns for their customers. I know my local shop was willing to take all the horns and blue bottles that I had hatched. I would trade for crickets to cut down on my feeding bills.

Dubias a illegal in Florida discoid are not though

TSK Supply is a good spot for the packaging materials on insects. They have deli lids that are punched and screened, so they provide plenty of air flow and circulation for insects.

Shipping wise folks do use US Postal, as it is the cheapest, but also the worst performer. Very poor tracking and second (or third) tier service.

With ShipYourReptiles you must ship live reptile Overnight, but live bugs can go with the 2Day or 3Day service, as appropriate (3 days of actual travel is tough on insects as well). You still want to pay close attention to weather and temperature concerns, of course.

Your best bet by the sounds of it would be to just sell locally, like on craigslist.

I personally have been shipping dubia for almost 4 years now through USPS and no DOA ever for me. Most people aren't going to be willing to pay $10-20 that UPS or FedEx would charge for the same shipping that is $5-8 through USPS.

Just ship on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

If it's really cold (Like teens) I will double box. All winter shipping I use 72 hour heat packs. Double boxing isn't necessary once you reach the 30s or warmer.

Yeah I have noticed many pissed of florida residents on here complaining about not being able to get Dubai. I was mainly going to ship to people on this forum. It is also their responsibility to find out what insects are legal in their own state. Thanks for the info though!
