She's digging, leave the lights on?

My female has finally started digging in her bin. We have her covered with a sheet and haven't been in the room all day but my husband peaked in (she didn't see him) about an hour ago and she was very busy!

Her lights are scheduled to go off in about an hour. Should we leave the lights in her cage on, or maybe just the lights in the room? Or is it okay to have it be dark if she is still digging?

I turn everything off. She can "work" in the dark or sleep as she choses.

This clutch is infertile. just want to get her through it as easily and healthily as possible. Its her first time. (Ours too). Ive read the link that jannb has shared in other threads but it didnt say anything about lighting.

So lights out then? I feel like an expectant father wondering what is going on in the delivery room but unable to peak in behind the sheet lest we disturb her.

I have limited experience but personally would go lights out, mine dug a few test holes during the day but actually choose her hole, dropped her clutch and buried it all in the dark.

I don't know for sure but I would assume in the wild they do it when they gotta do it, day or night.

I'm waiting on mine to lay sometime in the next few weeks, I hope. Totally freaked out about it.

Completely understand the freaking out part. Its been a challenging two weeks for this and other reasons.

Update in laying female

So i think she was successful with her laying. She was out of the bin this morning when i checked on her and i weighed her and she is 18g lighter. She seemed a little tired but had good strength. She had some dirt on her rostral process but looked relatively normal. Only thing was odd was some black stripes that almost looked like a scratch. My husband is going to give her a nice big meal today with plenty of calcium. Ill check on her again tonight and see if i can find the eggs. I didnt want to harass her too much this morning and left her cage covered.

Does this sound like she is doing okay?

Glad to hear that all went well. I usually give them a nice long shower, some nutritious food and a drop of liquid calcium everyday for the next 3 days. If she's eating then she should be fine.
