Shedding

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get some information about shedding. It's not that time yet for Momo, but i want to make sure that he has the right environment and has the ability to shed properly. He's a juvenile (4-5 months) and I had just got him about a week ago. I'm not sure of when he last shed, but I would like to know the frequency of chameleon shedding. Please provide me with any tips and information that would be helpful in regards to this subject. THANK YOU SO MUCH! :D

Just let the little guy do his thing ;) When he sheds, you want to raise the humidity 10%-20%. Since he's still little, he will probably do this every few weeks. When he gets to adult, don't be surprised if he doesn't shed for a few months. But it will gradually get harder to shed, and will eventually take a week or two, possibly longer, to get it all off.

There is no strict rule to that. It can range from once a month to once a week. The main issue is that some chams can have a shedding problem. I would say it is mainly related to poor husbandry and stress. If properly fed and hydrated they should pop like a sausage on a grill (sorry for the comparison).

When they become adults, they do not shed in one piece. They shed in little bits all over their body and can take a while depending on the chameleon.

True. But his is young. So it will most likely pop still.

Yeah, agreed. It's cute when that happens... :) But when they get to be adults, it makes you feel bad for them... the worst is when they shed on their feet and eyes :(

Yup. And the worst is when they rub their eyes against branches so that you are afraid the entire eyeball comes off.
