shedding/ skin question

my little dude has a wrinkle near the top on each side of his spine. im pretty much positive its just extra skin and nothing at all to worry about but i thought i would ask about it.

i would get a picture but my phone wont pick it up very good and thats the best i can do for now, but really it looks like nothing more than extra skin.

i dont tihnk he is dry, i mist quite a bit and my room/house is humid already. ive seen him drink quite a bit (or at least what i think is probably about right. he isnt shy about drinking or eating at all, for right now ive been splitting his food up just because i dont like trying to catch so many crickets at a time ( i know there are better ways to do it, i just havent tried it yet) so he will get 8 or 10 at a time (depends on how many jump away! hah)

also wanted to know what it loos like when they are about to shed? do they suddenly just get more pastel looking and thats about it or what?

since ive had him ive already seen him develop a little more color. the colors he has seem to have spread a bit, im noticing a blue stripe on his tail and a little pinkish/red (sort of salmon colored i guess..) near the corners of his mouth that werent there yesterday.. he is going to be awesome. he is awesome but he will be even more awesome later.

yep. thats it, i know other people have serious issues so in respect for others in more need than i - i will not post on this thread unless someone has a question i need to respond to.

thanks everyone, it might be a stupid question but im sure a lot of people have found out important stuff from questions just like this. (THIS IS MY 100th POST! WOOT. kind of a lame post for 100 though eh?)

edit: i also saw a white spot on him yesterday and he has a few more white spots today. i have a realy good feeling he is about to shed. am i right?

They turn pale white color when they are about to shed. Babies will shed really fast...like in an hour...you may not even know he shed if it wasn't for the extra skin flakes sprinked on the floor of the cage.

When they get older a shed will take longer. You will see new colors on him each time he sheds.

A good way to catch crickets is to put an empty paper towel tube in your cricket bin. The crickets will go hide in it. When your ready to feed take the tube and shake the crickets out . Thats how we do it anyway.

hah, dez i totally just put a roll in my bin earlier and its been wrking so much faster. like 3 seconds and i get like 10.

he hasnt really SHED yet but i can see like his face is all white now and im guessing it will be pretty quick to come off.

if you happen to check back could you tell me your feeding schedule with these guys (at least the batch my guy is from)

thanks for the reassurance, he has been acting a little weird today too but i feel like .. over obsessive if everything he does i have to ask about. i will still probably ask in a chat or something.

To answer your questions it would be so much nicer to know how old he is and what kind of chameleon he is.

We feed all the babies first thing in the morning. We free feed and there are about 5 babies to a cage at this point. So we dump quite a few in. Then its a feeding free for all.

Then if there are no crickets left at around 5pm we will throw a few more in. I always feed babies as much as they want to eat until they are about 5 months old...then I slowly start cutting back on the food .

alright cool, thanks.

bocajan - he is a ambilobe around 3.5 months. its looking more and more like he is just shedding. nothing major, just never seen it before seeing as ive only had him like 2 or 3 days depending how you count it.

i dont think i got any that show it. i dont have a real camera so im reduced to my flip or my cell phone cam. bleh. im going to upload them to my comp and see if i happen to see any of the spots.

its pretty obvious now, it ended up on his face and it looks like some of it is gone already but if i find any pics ill post them. thanks!

Ben, if you have a water bottle, heat some water and give him a warm shower, if he is like mine, he's a little itchy and grumpy! The warm water helps with the shedding as well. Krunch didn't eat til he was done!

got a pic of his head/face right before the lights went out so maybe this will help for those curious.

he sleeps pretty much IN the umbrella plant (i knwo its a tree but it looks more like a bush at this point) so his body is pretty well hidden but i can almost always see his face.

are you suggesting i "dump" water on him or get another spray bottle for warm water? he ate totally fine today, probably around 16 or so 3/8ths crickets i wasnt counting exactly but i gave him more than any other day (i was trying not to stress him out)

btw, he hasnt shown any interest at all in eating out of a cup.. he looks in like .. eh, no. he has caught like 5 stray crickets but im afraid if i let like 10 or 20 out at a time he isnt going to find them all and ... idk what will happen. they are hard to catch. his body is like 3.5 inches long (excluding tail) and he is in a 2x2x4 ft cage so idk about letting him hunt them all.. so i have to pull one out at a time and wait for him to get it and so on.
