Shape of eggs

For those of you out there that have hatched a clutch of eggs, mine are now 5 months old. They are all nice and plump and healthy looking but I have some smaller ones and some very large ones. What's up? Males/females? Big babies/little babies? They are all fertile or they wouldn't have lasted this long. Any ideas?

I would think it would have something to do with size difference at least.. not too sure it'd make a huge difference about male or female at this point in time.

Maybe the larger ones developed earlier in the female and had more time and nutrients to grow before the smaller ones started really developing.

That's an idea. Will they be the first ones to hatch then?

Possibly....that would make sense. And they will trigger the others to hatch unless you quickly remove them from the container. I have read that you can draw out a hatching clutch for MONTHS if you just let them come out one by one when they are ready. Interesting, huh?

We have a clutch of ambanjas and we had our first hatchling hatch a couple nights ago. We have the same thing as you with the different size eggs. Our first little guy came out of the egg we least expected. The egg was very small compared to some of the other ones that we have. But he is doing great so i guess there is no saying what can really happen with a clutch just play it by ear.

Are they all in the same hatching container? Is it possible some eggs have more moisture about them, and have just swollen a little more?

Sandra, you are so good! I put a little bit more water in the shoebox this weekend and I just checked this morning and voila, they are all looking the same now. Nice and plump and white. :D

BE very, very careful to no overwet them, or you will drown the embryos. In 9 months I added the smallest bit of water to the edges of the container twice, and I mean minimal.

That is exactly how I did it. I have a child's medicine dropper that I put water in and dropped it around the sides of the container. The vermiculite is not wet, just slightly damp. This is the first time I did it and the eggs are 150 days old.
