Sexing help.

I just received my 1 1/2 month old Blue Bar Ambilobe Panther Chameleon from LLL today. He came in super healthy and active. Showing tons of reds everywhere. I just would like a little help sexing the little one. His name is Potato. :)

Here s/he is. The last photo he caught a glimpse of something he didn't like.

Your new little one is a male. In a short time his bulge will be more noticeable.

Leans female to me. About 90% sure. Did LLL tell you it was a male ? Did they give you a guarantee ? As they did not produce it themselves, but only purchased from another and flipped it, did the critter come with any guarantee in the event it is not as advertised, either sex, color, or Locale ?

I agree with Jim. Leaning more towards female.

Can you get a profile shot of the side. Maybe place it on a stick or dowel and take a shot directly of it's side with it's tail sticking hopefully straight out.

What I would suggest is that, if you have the time, to post a couple new pictures every month, if not sooner. Whatever its sex, it will only become more obvious. And frankly, folks need to see the hazards of purchasing from flippers who sell chameleons too small.

There was no guarantee, and I expected that it was a flipped animal in the first place. Nothing surprising to me. I will get a few more pictures in the morning when it wakes up.

Here are just a few more photos. S/he was still awake when I got home from work so I snapped a few pictures of him/her on the top of the cage.

While more pics would certainly illuminate better, it will not be absolutely definitive, as it is hard to be 100% sure still, even though I put my certainty at 95% or such.

Another set of pictures in a month will really help to educate folks here. I wish that I had time-progressions of 100 different panthers to post in my website, much less the bandwidth to support it, to help folks develop a basis for evaluating younger animals as to sex.

But I do not have the time, or the bandwidth.

Its a girl. No doubt about it. Was it sold as a male ?

Not sold as male. I did request one, but they did say they can't guarantee the sex. Either way, I'll love Potato very much. I may try to see if I can possibly fit a male into my budget this week. :) Thanks for your advice! I'll definitely be posting progression photos.

Kudos to them for at least being up front about uncertainty over the sex. While I am sure of your loyalty to the animal, I will also chastise all who sell animals at a size where they cannot guarantee the sex, however, this one was large enough for the seller to know with a high degree of certainty. As you requested a male, you should have gotten one regardless.

As I noted earlier, it very well could not be blue barred, much less Ambilobe at all. As a female, you could grow it forever, and you still won't know until you have made the investment of time and money to breed it and see what hatches.

Carl,
What made you so sure ? It is clearly not a male.

I was using the last picture in the first set posted. To me it appeared that from the vent to the tail appeared pretty even with little to no dip.

From the next set of pictures posted you can see that it is more likely a female. From the vent to the tail is not a smooth transition and has a dip.

Update. Showing colors.

This thread is now over a month old, here is an updated picture of Yams. She is gaining quite a bit of color, lately on her bars.
