Sexing baby Jacksons

My friend has 13 baby Jackson chams. :D Can you tell males and females apart at two weeks of age or not? What do I look for? I am going to see them all at that weekend and want to be able to tell the difference! I am thinking it will be to do with the little horn nubs - or do females have them too? Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

I think two weeks might be a little early but yes look for horn nubs feel for them, but they probably aren't there yet.

Females CAN get nasal horns - my best breeding female had one full-on horn on her schnoz. However, best way to sex, in my opinion, was to look for the horns. There are a bunch of other assorted way (looking for the hemipene, etc) but it stresses the babies out. Just wait a bit. I noticed most of them had the start of horns by the first month.

Thanks - I've seen pics of the babies at a few days old and on one there are tiny little nubs already, so I am thinking that would be a male. I guess I'll know more when I see them all!

If these are xantholophus, they will all have small nubs when first born, however the males will be somewhat more pronounced. Most of what you read will tell you after about several weeks you can sex them. I made an educated guess at birth and turned out to be right.

Here is a male at 7 weeks

You see there is a slight difference in the nub size. After about 3-4 weeks, there is usually no doubt as to which are the males.

Brilliant! That really helps! :D Thanks for sharing those pics! Her babies will be two weeks old when I see them at the weekend, so we'll see if we can determine any definite males and females.

Just revisited this thread, and You can see the difference in those pics between male and female - the females have different shaped noses to the males. I guess I will have to visit her again to help determine their sexes! Any excuse to go and see those adorable babies!:D
