i dont know about the smells, but they can't exactly "hear" sounds, but they definitely feel the vibrations.

Lol I have to ask, what smells are you worried will hurt your cham?
I would be careful using chemical products around them and such, but I've never seen mine shy away from stinky wet dog smell or burn food
And like Cant said, they can't really hear (no ears!) but they will feel vibrations. But it doesn't bother mine either, just as long as they aren't trying to sleep.
