Selva "Forest Floor Terrarium" Test.

I was happy to have the opportunity to try out this product. The building process (if you could even call it that) was extremely easy, and makes creating a very natural looking terrarium effortless. The planting in separate pots allows for seedlings, and other plants that would eventually get too large to be planted without making a mess of the terrarium when you inevitably have to remove them later on.

Here is my tank as of now and a few quick cell phone pictures of setting it up. It still needs to fill in quite a bit and I picked smaller plants on purpose so I could watch them grow, and so they would be fully acclimated tot he enclosure. I also included a few grasses and Lychee tree seedlings because I love the shape of their leaves and the cover they provide.

It's soo good to see how other people set their Selva kit up and different configurations !! Looks great!! What's being housed in here?

That's a pretty sweet arrangement Danny. I'm a fan of the Lychee Tree to mine has grown quite a bit since I got it. I think it is going to turn into a great chameleon plant.

The best part is having everything grow and fill in and look like you never had a hand in there at all!

Danny you do a wonderful job attacking something new. I will be waiting to see it finished and inhabited. Congrats.

Thank you all for the compliments, can't wait for it to fill in a bit more. It is currently vacant. I may take out the manzanita logs and put in some perches for pygmies, but I've also thought about Tomato frogs or Dart frogs.

Jeremy, there are lots of Lychee groves around here and the mature trees are perfect. I have a few but they're still pretty small and don't bear fruit yet; they're strong enough to support Titan though :).

You always have something nice to say lol. Thanks, Laurie :).

I forgot to mention the tank is a 20 gallon tall. But the kit can also fit a 15 gallon.

I have been considering removing my Coffee Tree (the branches are just not wide enough in circumference) out of Rhino's enclosure and either replacing it with the Lychee Tree once it matures or an Avocado Tree which are great for Parsonii. I had some negative responses to using Avocado in the past and it turns out the leaf's of the Avocado are poisonous (the bark of the tree, skin, and pit of the fruit are poisonous) only if consumed in excessively large amounts and are regularly used in cooking (similar to banana and bay leaf's). However the bark is really difficult to remove from the tree and if I use the Avocado plan on removing the fruit meaning Rhino won't have access to the pit or skin of the fruit. A side note my Money Tree is blooming huge golden orchid similar flowers in the greenhouse:D.

Pictures of the Lychee groves if you can!

I know the bark is extremely toxic to birds. I don't think I'd risk it, but then again the chances of him consuming it are very slim. I'll try to get some pictures of the groves next time I go by them and send them to you. I've never seen money tree blooms, I think that requires some pictures as well :p.

If I can I'm going to post pictures. The Money Trees flowers are delecate and normally only bloom for one day then the swamp cooler blows the flowers off the tree. They are gorgoues though, they look similar to a giant orchids flower.

Hey that's looking great. That's fun that you used some wild plants in there. I like those tree seedlings. I think I recognize that fern, but I can't remember the species off the top of my head.

It could be good to get some kind of driftwood stump in there that will stand up more to make more animal habitat and also help to fill the vertical space. Do you know yet what kind of animal you might introduce? It looks like it could be good for a tree frog or something like that.

Since you have the misting setup going in there another idea would be to get a nice stump and plant some epiphytic plants like orchids and epiphytic ferns on it. Little miniature orchids love misting and if you can also give them good lighting and air circulation they will grow in really nice.
