what is your humidity in the enclosure? they will often do that when it is to dry ( not enough humidity) try misting him with warm water for a few minutes and keep you humidity a little higher.
Mine sometimes will scratch his eye even if humidity is good etc, he may be trying to clean his eye without the presence of water aswell, if the problem persists give him a shower or something(warm is hot to them, so do room temp. water)

thats why we have to put basking lights over them right? b/c a normal room temp at 70 is amplified to extremely hot to them? i think not.
most people here on forum fill their misting stuff with HOT water so it comes out warm.
