ok lets see i have a male panther male who is about 6 months old now.
my question is i use to have a growing vine(not sure of name but know it is safe). anyway after sevarl pot changes it has finally died. but i have left it in the cage b/c i had dowels in it and cammie now uses those to get down to the lower part of the cage.
but since it is dying it needs to go. i want/need something there. and he likes the dowels. i was just wondering if i filled up a the planter with some play sand(the clean kind) if that would be alrigh. i figured it would hold the dowels pretty good.
thoughts, good or bad and why? if bad b/c he could eat some what about putting river rocks over the top of it?

sand is bad, risk of impaction, river rocks on top is a good idea, just monitor the chamy and make sure he;s not rootin round much on there. make sure the river rocks are big enough not to choke on..

Do you have any other plants in the cage?
It should be pretty cheap to get a schefflera or pothos from your local garden centre to replace the dead plant.

thanks,
i do have other plants i have a fiscus. i also have a pothos, and a few fake vines,as well as some tree branches.
i need to find a plant that needs alot of water lol. this is the plant that is under my dripper. any ideas?

very true, pothos can handle a lot of water( i believe they can be grown hydroponically as well), but i tried this method and found that even pothos get saturated fairly quickly under a dripper, i spent too much time pouring water out of my pot than it was worth, a netted catch is what i still use and is easy to empty and clean, but soon im going to go with a drainage system.(less time in cage is better)

i have a pothos w/ a drip catch of a bottom on the bottom of the pot. but it gets so much water under the dripper it just can't dry out enough.
so i put the other plant under there. i mean i need something on that side so he can get down and what not. he likes to sleep on the dowels sometimes.
so the sand with river rocks with work ok?
and yes pothos can be grown in just water. get a piece of it and thorw it in some water and bam in no time it will be growing away.
i had one once when i was much younger,i use to pour my diet pepsi's in it if they were old that thing still grew. they are very hardy lol.
