Ryker and MBD?

Ryker, my 3 year old Panther is showing signs of MBD. Which concerns me. He gets outside time on occasion, maybe like every other week 4 hours one day. He get D3 twice a month and calcium without every feeding along with a Multivitamin twice a month. I think it might be time I replace his uvb. But it's not horribly over, maybe a month. But today I found him resting one of his legs off the branch and as I looked at it, it had the swelling of early MBD. I felt it in the swollen area and it feels like a slight bow is there. I don't understand why. o_O Either way, I have liquid calcium from treating Hope and immediately gave him .2 of a syringe worth. I'm not sure if that's how much he needs, I'm sure he needs more, Hope is on .1... but I didn't want to overdose but I wanted to do something to hopefully help immediately. His other legs look fine and his jaw isn't soft, so I think it's just starting. Any help is much appreciated?

I'm sorry to hear that Ryker is not well. It could be signs of over supplementing or possibly even gout. I recommend a vet visit with bloodwork and x-rays to find out what's going on and how to treat it.

Sometimes over suplementing vit A can give similar symptons to MBD.
Also there is another type of MBD caused by the kidneys not working properly and not absorving it. It is called something like renal mbd.
I am not saying your cham has got any of those things, only sharing some info.
I think a reptile vet could check the calcium density with some x-rays and it would help to find out what is going on.

I was supplementing with a multivitamin with preformed vitamin A before... Now I am supplementing with herptivite.I stopped using the preformed one because of Hope who, since she's a jackson, is super sensitive to any multivitamins I give her. I will make a vet appointment as soon as possible and see what's going on. Should I stop giving the liquid calcium or continue it?

Post some photos of him. I believe I would stop the liquid calcium until the vet visit. You might ask this question to Dayna (ferritinmyshoes) since she's a vet and get her opinion.

So I got some pictures after showering him today because his urate were orange a few days ago and I was worried. Not grotesquely orange just a slight tinge after I had lessened the misting times for his feet. I have since increased the misting times now that his feet are healed and he has new perches. However I felt he still needed a shower and he was indeed thirsty and just generally enjoyed the shower. Wish I could have gotten a picture he was adorable. Just sat on my leg and tilted his head back drinking and having a smile as much as a chameleon can smile. He washed his eyes really well too. However during the shower he turned his bright colors when he was done, and it showed something his dark resting colors could not, he has what looks like to be several bruises along his torso and back, a few faded one along his throat. His leg is indeed swollen, no signs of a break from what we can tell though we plan on taking him to a vet because of his weakened grip. He hasn't been dangling it over the last two days. So we are hopeful it was just a sprain from a fall. I heard this strange thudding noise about a week ago at night, but I didn't check the chameleon cages because I couldn't imagine it was them. ... Maybe he fell? All the large white patches on his sides are old burns >.< sorry, hard lesson learned with a halogen lamp.

Are you talking about the black patches on him? I think I would have him in to the vet for that.

It seems he has his share of health issues. Maybe something in your husbandry needs tweeking? Take with you an accurate and detailed written account of how you keep him so you wont forget or leave anything out when the vet asks.

Hopefully you can get him sorted out.

I don't know why my husbandry would need tweaking, but I would love some advice.

The burns are from 6 months old, when I was learning stuff and I used a 75 watt halogen bulb that was way too strong.

I give him his D3 twice a month. Twice a month multivitamin. Calcium without D3 every feeding. He's in a 2ftx2ftx4ft reptibreeze cage. He has a mistking set with a 4 minute timer that goes off 4 times a day. Live plants. His UVB is linear, he has a 75 basking bulb that is lifted off the screen. His basking temps stay around 84-88 degrees. His exo terra vines were just recently replaced with a dowel rod system which is much better for him. Though makes me worried that is reason he fell, when I switched him over to that he really didn't know how to get around.

I will make an appointment for him for first thing next week tomorrow morning, I don't think I can get him any earlier though I will try.

I read on the forums daily showers can help heal bruising and since I think that this is bruising I have been giving him a shower every day for the passed two days. It doesn't stress him considering Ryker is my friendly chameleon and wants to be out, especially since after the shower he gets some sunshine. We shall see how this helps. He seems to enjoy the showers a lot, drinking during them and since I sit in the shower with him I can easily tell when he's done. I wasn't able to get a hold of my vet today. For some reason the person who practices exotics is out until monday, and she's seen Ryker before so she is the only one I trust with him. The other exotic vet in Pismo charges a lot more and the emergency vets around here don't do reptiles. >.< Ugh we are so limited. So since he's still eat and generally ok besides the weakness in his foot and the black patches (still eating, drinking, and moving around ok; even still using the weak foot) we are waiting until Monday which I think they will take me early Tuesday morning like usual. I will continue with the daily showers and watching him closely, if anything seems to get worse I will make an emergency appointment with the other exotic place.

Since the showers, his bruising seems to be getting a tiny bit better, and the swelling gets better during the showers, however it swells again outside of the shower. His grip is getting stronger at times, however it still is weak during most of the time. I am worried he fractured it or broke it. I am hoping it's nothing like a serious disease. I am hoping it was just a fall and some anti-inflammatories and whatever else can help it heal. We will see.

Sorry forgot to update you guys. We took him to the vet, they did some x-rays, it was most likely a fall. Nothing is broken or any signs of mbd. The swelling in his leg has gone down dramatically with the showers I have been giving him on a regular basis. The black marks, which the vet also assumed were bruises, are going away slowly and he is shedding again, which I assume will also help. He's eating well and using his leg with a stronger grip now. He's drinking and pooping, being his normal happy chameleon self. So I assume he must have fallen when I switched him over to the dowels and he didn't know how to get around. I think I should have kept the vines in and switched him over more slowly. I hate learning things. >.< Especially when it can cause him to fall, my poor boy. He seems to be doing better with getting around and doesn't seem to lose footing at all anymore. I will be putting a new branch in as soon as I clean it and shorten it. It should put me at ease and help him.

He is such a derp >.< it worries me. But I love his personality and he's such a good boy.
