Rosalita ate from our hands!

So we were having problems with Rosie eating crickets and were getting a little worried. We decided to ask you guys about what to do and got her some medium meal worms. SHE ATE RIGHT FROM OUR HANDS!!!! THREE TIMES!!

The poor thing must have been so hungry! I guess she was just bored with the crickets. We did set up a feeder for her. Instead of a milk carton though, we used a water bottle instead and have a cricket sitting in there. Hopefully that will start to work.

We're so happy she actually has an appetite and that she was so willing to eat from our hands with absolutely no problem! Thank you guys all so much for your tips!

We also bought the powder with D3, 2:1 calcium-phosphorus by flukers. Only thing is we were so anxious to feed a worm to her we totally forgot to dust them haha!

Unfortunately we are having trouble finding medium-small superworms. We saw some at the pet store but they were way too big for her to eat. We tried to order them from a website that we saw on this page (one of the ads at the top right) but they said the minimum order was about $15 and we just don't need all that supplies right now.

But if they're that bad because of the exoskeleton then why are crickets ok for them to eat?

They have a harder exo. than crickets, and you have to also look at the rest of the nutritional makeup.

Try buying some silkworms as well as some supers online. Silkworms are great and you can feed normally without having to worry about fat or hard shells. You still want to feed other things like crickets with them, but they help when a Cham is on a cricket strike. In fact, it's the only type of food that my female panther will eat from my hands.

Any good reliable websites you can recommend for us? We just want to do whatever is best for her and keep her happy and full like any good parents :)

Are mealworms OK to use once and a while though? We did buy a small tub of them, I believe there are 50 of them in there. They were really cheap, $1.25. Any info on how well all these different worms keep? Also, what kinds of things do you all use to gutload your worms?

Mealworms are okay 2-3 times a month when they are gutloaded with greens like dandelion greens, collard greens, mustard greens, kale, endive, and escarole. You can also gutload with fruits and veggies like sweet peppers, yams, squash, carrots, apples, papaya, and oranges.

For silkworms, mulberryfarms (a sponsor) and coastal silk worms are good. You can also feed superworms as long as they are smaller than the space between her eyes but it can be longer. The acception are squishy bugs because they squish! :)

Can superworms or silk worms be used regularly in her diet or do they follow the same 2-3 times a month?

I try to only use superworms once a week, but others have used them more often before with no I'll effects. They are still treats though, not the main meal :) Silkworms can be used regularly in addition to crickets/roaches and superworms.
