Rod iron plant stands

hey all,
I'm about ready to start filling the new enclosure for my son's veil. I have a couple old rod iron plant stands laying around that I thought I used to elevate the ficus and schefflera. Just want to check in to make sure these ok to use, I was thinking I might wrap them in some florist tape so they can be better used by Joe for climbing?

The should be fine, the WILL rust though. May be check for sharp edges.

Sand them down with a high grit sand paper, and paint them.
Problem solved!
I use plastic ones in my cages.

I did that a few days ago but still wasn't sure about them climbing on it.
