I have a mature Jackson Chameleon, his middle horn is pushing close to 2" in length, and he is wonderful. Appears very healthy eats well and moves around alot. he's in a 30x30x20 screend cage, only artificial plants and papertowels on bottom of cage, and his food is dusted with Reptical products specific to Chams. Heres my question, please dont think me odd, but he goes to the bottom of the cage and bites on a rock I have down there! Now I know that animals like Humans will crave or eat things that the feel they are deficient in. Am I not providing a food or mineral he needs? Or does he just not like this particular object?

He only does it about once a day , but its kinda creepy, I can hear his teeth grating on the stone.

so glad to have found u guys, the info on this website is positively awesome!

lol i would probrally take the rock out. but im really curious as to why he would chew on rock? hm... never heard of that maybe someone else knows.

I have a big Cham I keep in a free Range Canyon... He eats rocks specifically...:D;)

OMG, we are soooooooo on the same page! Such an amazing movie, and I was totally in love with that girl lol! I still watch the DVD from time to time.

LOL we went from a rock chompin' Cham to a hot little princess with sandy hands!! U guys are greaat thx for the feedback, the rocks are part of the support for the artificial plant, even odder, he always goes for the same rock on the same side. Once he's given it a good chompin' he leaves it alone. once I figure out how to post pic's Ill put one up ,he's a very handsome specimen if I do say so myself. :P

Sorry for the off topic non sense... But I would try to think of another way to support the Artificial Plant than with something that is is obviously becoming an issue with your cham. Why not go for real plants... They will help keep the humidity up for your Jax as well.

your right Joe, I was just thinking that if it is aggravating him like that, then it's got to go. Oddly other sites have recommended no live plants but here with so many Cham lovers and real time responses who use real plants, I'm gonna give it a try, have u heard of a Jax that eats plants ,if so what kind, if not then its a beautiful wellwashed ficus for him.
