I was wondering if a Repti Glo 5.0 CFL bulb is a suitable UV source for my 3 month old panther in his 18" x 12" x 20" Zilla. Also, would a 40w zoo med daylight blue heat bulb in a dimmer lamp be ample for basking? I need to go to the store soon so i need ASAP answer.

he'll only be in there a month or 2, then i will move him to a 3' x 2' x 4' custom cage w/ a 48" reptisun

CFL have beem known to cause blindness and other issues that you should just avoid

get the linear reptisun 5.0

I would definitely get the reptisun 5.0 linear bulb and if you want, use a regular 60 watt incandecent bulb. Maybe a lower wattage due to the age of the cham.

OK, ill go w/ the reptisun, i just dug out an old 15" lamp w/ an old exo terra, sun glo 5.0. It is over a year old but is better than no UV. Also, what do you think about keeping juvies like him of 3 months w/ live plants??? My breeder said no live plants for 1 or 2 more months. Also, what do you think about me free ranging him on one little ficus untilll he can be put into his big 2'x3'x4' cage. I was thinking about putting the 2' tall ficus (w/ pot) on a table in a tub about 6" tall that he cannot climb out of and suspending the lighting over it all somehow.

A used year old tube *is* no UVB.

then i guess i better get my bulb quick. The daily outdoor basking sessions are his only UV exposure then. Anyway, What about my free ranging idea mentioned in my last comment.

While i FULLY support the advice to get a new linear RetiSun tube, I thought I would mention that I used ReptiGLO CFLs for 6 months without issue. As far as I know this particular CFL brand has not been one of the ones that is pointed at for causing eye issues, but as far as I know it has also not been tested and proved safe and good either. If you do try one, know There is a burn-in process to be aware of.

hey aside from the 5.0 tube, i noticed you wanna free range the cham till its big enough for the big enclosure. i wouldnt feel comfortabe leaving a young one to free range. young ones love to explore. :)
