My timer got messed up last night and drained my water resevoir and burned out my pump from running dry. I got it from Big Apple, but they're out of the replacement pumps.
Well, the point is not to let it run dry. The failure was in the timer (read: human error), not the pump itself. I've had it for a while, but did some rearranging and must have hit a button or something on the digital timer and the pump came on but never went off on the next scheduled setting. It drained the resevoir and continued going and burned out the pump.
I have 8 chams and a full time job that's an hour away. I've been having to hand mist all the cages when I can (I'm going to look like Popeye by the time I get a replacement pump). I've put up stop gap drippers, but anyone can tell you an automatic mister is so much better for coverage and keeping up the humidity. Plus, I've already got the whole thing set up. I don't want to scrap it and do something else when all I need is a replacement pump.
I called Big Apple and they're got the pumps on order and are waiting to get them from their vendor (whom they wouldn't disclose).
I just thought someone on here might have made a similar system and would know where to get a 55psi water pump.
I don't think everyone who owns one or two chameleons wants to spend several hundred dollars for a misting set-up. At the same time that does not mean they do not want some easy in care.
