Receptive Question!

Miss Lily

Chameleon Enthusiast
I was just wondering if there is a set time from a female veiled showing receptive colours/behaviour to when they start to cycle infertile eggs?

I think Lily is becoming receptive again as she has been eating less and roaming her viv for the last couple of days - she's like a girl with a mission - she can get quite a speed up when she's let out!! :D Her laying bin will be re-introduced in the next few days just in case!

Are you sure you dont want 100 grandkids ;);)

Sounds more like getting ready to lay eggs than being receptive. Didn't she lay the last batch of eggs around Christmas? Is she looking eggy??

Thanks Kinyonga! No, she doesn't look eggy at all - she still looks skinny! I didn't think she was that big just before she laid either, but now when I look at photos I took of her rear view she was quite round and lumpy! I could only see and feel definite egg shapes about a week before she laid. Yep, she laid on 23rd December (a mega clutch of 103)! :D She did this restless, roaming thing last year around the start of November and she had bright gold and blue markings, which she has at the moment.

Lily is my first chameleon and that clutch was her first (at 14 months old) and my first experience too, so at least I'm more prepared this time around and know what to expect. She's behaving just like she did back in November, when I believe she was receptive - usually she'll sit in the same spot all day and bask, but she's just wandering and restless again! I was wondering if it's too soon to be receptive again? Or is she likely to cycle another clutch very soon? She's also cut her food intake down too, which I guess is a good thing for limiting clutch size. She has no interest in food at the moment (not even a waxworm), but then she didn't eat for 10 days at one point last year so I'm not worried about that.

Im still amazed..103! Imagine if those were fertile.. Yikes!!

Come on, Lily is a jewel, how can you not want lots of Lily's? We would all enjoy along with you.:D

I would love lots of Lilys, and I know everyone just loves baby cham photos!! However, I don't have the space for even a male, let alone a huge clutch of babies!! Also I don't particularly like crickets! I would find it very hard to deal with pinheads!! It's taken me since May last year (when I got Lily) till now be able to open a tub of crix or locust WITHOUT putting it in the fridge to slow them down first!! I've learnt to cope with them because I wanted and love Lily so much that I had to!! :D

How on earth would anyone cope with 103 hatchlings!! I've uploaded a photo of Lily's monster clutch in her album on my profile if anyone wants to see! Yes, it was 103 - I counted twice as I couldn't believe it!! :D

I want her dieting secret.. How did she get her figure back so quickly!?

She did have a bit of a saggy belly for a few days after, but she's very slim again now!! She did get quite fat towards the end, bless her - we didn't realise how big she got until we saw how skinny she looked afterwards!! :D
