Raising Feeders?

Hey I have been recently buying feeder crickets for my veiled and I was wondering if anyone had good links on raising them. Usually I have been getting young crickets but the latest group I got are mixed with young ones and adults that have the little sticks poking out of their buts and some are REALLY FAT and look pregnant.

I am now considering trying to raise my own to help keep the cost of the feeders down and I was also wondering if it would be better to raise something else. I have looked into getting dubias, but I'm not to sure about roaches >.<

Also, I have seen a lot of people feeding their chameleons in cups and I was wondering if this is better than just letting the crickets roam around. I usually let 6 crickets in at a time for him and he runs all over the cage eating them fine.

Another question I've been trying to figure out is if I should be feeding him veggies. He eats the pothos and hibiscus but I've seen alot of people feeding carrots, grapes, etc.

Any advice would be great.

If you have the time you can growyour own crix. It will take a bit of work, but once you got it down they are not that big of a deal.

Roach are the most easy food to grow.

Cup Vs. Free range is up to you. I like to free range my crix but will often put roach and supers in a cup.

You can try to hang greens from the cage, but all my veilds just like to eat the living plants... They do it just to tick me off I think... lol. Maybe I should grow some mustard greens inside the cage or something

I manage to keep my crickets alive 2-3 weeks and occassionally have baby crickets. They are awful! They are really tiny and get out of the container easily and run all over my sun room counter. I set out poison for them because they are uncontrollable. Many folks have luck raising other feeders. I would think about raising them rather then crickets, but that's just my opinion.

That sounds like a cool idea... Why Not?

As far as raising crickets... Have a bin full of Chirping adults... Put in a tupperware laying container of moist soil, wait two days, remove the tupperware and put it in seperate "baby bin" and check back in a round 2 weeks I believe... It should be full of tiny little pinheads! Piece of Cake... Just hope you don't mind chirping! I am picking up 2000 adults tonight for breeding pin heads... I am going to keep them outside I believe...Let them bother my neighbors instead!

I am so jealous of the wildlife you guys get down there in FL... Iggies, geckos, Crocs, Sounds like the Field Herpers Field Day! That sounds like fun though... Put out tons of crickets in a bin in the back yard...stay out at night and see what kind of hungry little critters come running.
