Rain dome, and Jacksons

I have been experimenting with timing on my rain dome for Noogie.
I discovered that he is more inclined to want his drink in the morning, but not too early.
So I programed a 8 minute long rain at 10am, and sat back to watch him.

It took him the full 8 minutes just to slowly amble himself under it, and opened
his mouth, then it stopped, and he stood there for a minute, then slowly ambled off!!
So now I have it programmed for 10 minutes, hopefully, enough time for him
to get under it, and have a good drink.

For you guyz with Jax, and using the rain dome, how long do you let it run?

They usually have only one good drink a day, so the the other cycles are just
2 minutes each, mostly to keep the RH up.
But I want to have one good rain soaking in the morning.

How do you jacksons owners program your mistking rain domes?

I usually have a short 3 minute one in the morning, then 10 minutes at 10:30, then two more 5 minutes rounds at 1 and 4. It really can take them 5+ minutes just to start drinking.

For my jacksons and other like species, i have the mister go for 6 minutes and once that starts, and auto dripper clicks on for 4 hours, and then repeats for the late day misting session.

Your observations are IMO spot on and the misting does little more than raise the humidity and activate their desire to drink. Mine almost exclusively actually drink from the drippers.

HTH,

Well, since all my chams are on the same timer and pump, and only Noogie
has a rain dome, everyone else has to put up with a daily 10 minute mist!
which they do not like at all!!

Smeagol and Squee drink from the dripper cap directly, Slinky lapes the water
off the leaves from either the mister, or dripper, or when I hand mist.

I never see Smidget drink, but I think he is also laping the water off the leaves.

Noogie is completly different, being a jax, he sticks his head under the water
and drinks, never seen him licking it off of anything.
So the rain dome is ideal for him.
When I hand mist, I need to turn the little mist spray adjustment to the
coarsest spray, and spray with short bursts, from above and on his head.
It takes him until half the quart bottle is empty before he gets in his "drinking
possition" and then, another minute before I see his mouth working.
Once I see his mouth working, I can concentrate the spray so he can get
more, and he will drink for a long time.

No wonder some new folks have trouble with dehydrated jax!!!!

Dexter stares at it for a good while then he starts testing the water (sort of like we dip our feet when we get in the pool), slowly puts his head in then takes another while to start drinking.

Do you think this is why we need fogers for them?
Seen that main youtube video on jacksons that he has a fogger and mister.
he even says that his jackson likes to hang out in the cool wet area the most.
