I got my very first Panther Chameleon in Feb this year. Pet shop wasn't sure of his age, or even if it was a HE.
After doing a lot of research and reading EVERYTHING on the net, i found that he was approx 2 months, based on size and weight, and he was in fact a HE.
He was sold to me as a Nosy Be main bloodline. Not sure what he is crossed with, but i don't mind what he is, i'm not one for wanting only "pedigree pets" lol
.
Anyway, when i got him home, he hated my guts! I managed to get one quick shot of him on my finger (profile piccy)...and then he stayed dark and gloomy and wanted nothing to do with me.
Today, at approx 5 months old, Qwerty and i have come to an understanding
He takes live food from my hand, he doesn't hiss or bite, he voluntarily comes to me and climbs onto my hand when he is in the mood to say hi....and he's getting his first colours.
I gave up being a "Goth" in my home just for him. He wasn't happy with my dark clothing, so i now wear greens and blues around him and in the home. It's made a huge difference!
Just this week i got the best surprise from him....he actually walked over to me, grabbed my finger and climbed onto my hand while i was cleaning the plants in his vivarium. Totally out of the blue, and he's done it a few times since. So, i've bought him a new plant that sits on my windowsill in full view of the sunshine, and i take him over there when he wants to come out...he LOVES it!!
This little guy is now three times the size he was when i brought him home in February. His fav food is Calci Worms, i believe they are known as Phoenix worms in other countries?. He free feeds on crickets and flies too.
If there is one thing i have learned so far about Chameleons, is that you need a lot of patience. Truly the most trust based creature i've ever taken on. And, most importantly...everything is on their terms!
So glad i made the decision to take on one of these beautiful creatures. I cannot wait to see how he ages over the next few years...waiting for more colours is kind of exciting, and i'm curious to find out what he may have been crossed with too
