Don't know just what is best for my cham.....I have spring water straight out of the mountain, very pure as it is all underground except where in comes out of the fountain.....I do have a dehumidifier that I run downstairs and can collect close to a gallon every few days, that gives me distilled water....or is tap water ok to use?

If your tap water is clean then it's ok, I use tap but water on this island is very very fresh and clean.

I can't comment on spring water as I don't know much about that lol! You would want to be careful about minerals etc.

I wouldn't use dehumidifier water, I have a dehumidifier and the water tank always seems to have dust particles or something in it!

Most folks on here that need to treat thier water use a reverse osmosis water filter.

Hope this helps! :)

I don't think a dehumidifier creates truly distilled water. Distilled water is just condensed steam....so would have to be heated to boiling first.

If your tap water is safe for humans and is not treated with chlorine or chloramine (like many municipal water sources are) you can use it. If it is hard (high in minerals) it can cause mineral deposits on leaves, clog mister nozzles and ultrasonic fogger parts.

Man, deja vu! The thread right above this one covered almost the same questions. Maybe about time for a sticky message about "safe water"?

If you are using a misting system, you have to be careful because it could become clogged. I have a MistKing and RO water is recommended.

You can use tap or hard water in a misting system...it will just need cleaning to remove the mineral deposits. Before I had my RO filter I just ran 2 cleaning cycles through my misters, pumps, and foggers...one with diluted bleach for organic stuff like bacteria, mold, algae, and one with vinegar for mineral deposits. If you do it regularly the nozzles won't clog too badly depending on what's in your water (iron, calcium, other mineral salts, etc).

Thanks to all that have answered my question.....I think I will stick to the tap water, it is very clean and pure........living in a place called Hot Springs, the water better be good....I have never tasted water so good.
