Question about feeding newly hatched Silkworms

Evening All,

I have had good success hatching silkworms from eggs, but I seem to hit a problem about day 5 at which point they all die off.

My first question is in regards to feeding the newly hatched. once the eggs hatch, they are all spread out in lets say a 5x5" area. I place small pieces of chow in that area and they all go to it to feed. However, those small pieces will dry out by the end of the day. When I go to feed fresh food, I would think it best to remove the old food, but the newly hatched are still on the food and they are to small to remove.

SO, suggestions on how you are feeding newly hatched worms?

Finally, I have temps at around 74-83, so I dont think that is an issue but would appreciate thoughts on this as well.

Beyond this I am going to make sure I am being careful with sanitation.

Thanks on your feedback on the feeding.

Try putting a thin strip of food along the mesh. Move the worms onto the food with a paint brush or cocktail stick. They should be fed up to four times a day. I can only manage twice but that worked for me. Depends how quickly the food dries out.:)
