So I was going to purchase a Melleri Pair but I dont think I want to use that much space up in my Cham room (not much of one yet):D So I started thinking about a few other montane species such as the Quad's or the Meru's and I think im going to need help deciding I already have 1.2 montane pygmys (just layed first clutch) and 1.2 Rudis. So now I need to know what my next will be. Help Help~~!:confused:

I have a room full of panthers and veileds, but I just became an owner of my first quad. Don't get me wrong I still love are the other but this little quad girl has stolen my heart. I am now looking at a male quad. I couldn't give little Tuffy up for anything. Get a quad and you will never be sorry. That ofcourse is just my completely unbiased opinion,:D:D

think i saw a pic...

You got yours from josh right?? I think i saw a baby pic. Lol I am looking for a very unique breeding project and im having trouble making up my mind!!!!

I'm with Laurie,

my nephiew wants me to find a bride for my panther Splat.
yet I'm not too sure about breeding him.

so my next cham is going to be a quad from Josh too.
they are so freaky cool looking, and I'll bet alot of fun to keep.
the only thing I don't like is that I'll have to use alot of fake plants for this type of cham...oh, well. :p

No my first one came from Elisa at ChamEO rescue. My next is coming from Josh, and maybe a third from Elisa. Can you tell I have fallen hard for these little chams?

Why fake plants?? I have an amazing setup already all live plants...

I'm sure you were talking to me and not Laurie...

well since my home has low humidity levels, too low for thies guys, I'm thinking of dripping mist from a humidifier at the top of the cage(s).
this fog or mist will keep the plants near the top wet at all times....thus killing any live plants because the leaves wont be able to "breath" with all that wetness.

Both Quads and Meru's are species that are on my list, however another species you might want to consider at this time is Jacksonii Jacksonii. They Just came into the country recently and are a really interesting species. They are somewhere between the size of Xanths and Meru's. You can't go wrong with any of them :)

See Ya,

Todd

I've kept both species so here a lil pro and contra list:

merumontanus:
+ very small, don't need much space, only round 20cm long
+ livebearers
+ in relation to their size giant horns :D
+ could be sometimes housed together
- their climate is not so easy:really deep temperatures at night and on day never more than 25°C for a longer period

quadriocornis:
+ could be definitly housed together
- need much more space than merumontanus (males could be 40 cm long !)
+ have maybe the most variable coloration
- egg layers, with little clutches (round 5-12 eggs if I remember right)
+ have also beautiful horns and fins
- they need also very low temperatures

Hope I can help you a bit. Both species need an perfect water supply and prefer it to be housed outdoors.

Cheers
Benny

quads or merus

Well they will be house in a designated mountane cham room as i live in mn and there is not much of a season for they outside they will be brought outside for perfect days. Does anyone have expierience with the average amount a meru can give birth to? And ill check out the jacksonii jacksonii thanx

Then I don't really understand it. I mean merumontanus and quadricornis love cool temperatues. Just give them a few times per day a spot and they will be happy outdoors for some months. That's the best you could do for them !

I think during the summer they would be ok but i do know in the winter it drops below 0* F (not to sure on the conversion to Celsius on that one)

I have two Quads from Josh and they're amazing. They're growing fast and as long as you keep them cool (~75-78) and wet (mist for 10mins 3x day) you'll have no problems.

I would choose Quads. Josh is a great guy to work with and truly cares about who these animals go to. This is one particular species I would highly recommend having setup before they arrive.

Good luck!

Why fake plants? I have raised Quads, plants do well in Montane enclosures.:D

Nick

And they help to get a better climate in your enclosure. For me the most important point using real plants: They just look a 100 times better :)
