Quadricornis laying eggs...

Well there are very few quads left, sold like wildfire, but one of the females laid eggs tonight, so pleased about that. Attached are pictures in sequence of the laying, eggs, and the female afterwards. I've got so many chams laying right now that I had to set up 5-gallon buckets...

and the uncovered quad eggs, 10 in all...

I should mention, the "sequence" pictures are from my iPhone app and a remote camera I use to monitor laying chams after hours (sorry for the poor quality).

Ponders--one of the eggs was a "double" egg, two eggs conjoined--have you ever seen that with any of your quads? I'm guessing it won't last long but thought I'd ask.

No, no double eggs, but a Siamese twin in a regular sized egg, made it full term, pipped, but didn't hatch.

Is the double egg side by side or longways? I've read that they can hatch if they pip in the right direction, away from each other.

Here is a picture of the "double egg" from the quad. The dirt really stuck to the eggs and I was afraid of rubbing them too much, but hopefully you can see it.

If either of you thinks there's too much dirt on the eggs, let me know--they all look like this. I figured they're buried in dirt in nature so some shouldn't be too detrimental. I've never had a clutch this "dirty."

How did u get her to lay egg? did u just put her in the bucket and she started to dig or something?
I cant get my female to lay egg and I know shes gravid and should of laied

Good luck with the quad incubation. Re: dirty eggs, should be just fine, but I must admit that I wash all of mine. Controversial I know......Been doing it for decades and never had a fertile egg mold, not even once.

You have a gravid quadricornis and don't know what to do?

Yes, she needs to be in a bucket with moist sand. Fairly deep too because they dig a burrow. I use a mix of peat moss and sand.

I put a plant in the bucket, a large flat rock that I pre-start a hole under, and a light bulb for heat. I use a 55 gallon trash can.

I've had eggs I've left more dirty than others, and to me it didn't make a difference. With my quad eggs though, I got the dirt off that I could.

With that double egg, I'm not sure how that will turn out. I'd be interested in seeing how it develops.

Fascinating Mike--do you just mist some water onto the eggs and gently dry them off with a paper towel? I'd be very interested in hearing more about it.
