Protecting Drywall from Mist

I'm surprised this hasn't come up more, but how do you protect your walls from the humidity/misting near and around your chameleon's cages? The walls of the cage are screen, so naturally mist travels through them and into the air and onto the room walls around the cage.

I rent, and I've seen what extended water exposure does to drywall. How do you prevent damage? Right now I've got the cage 3 feet from any wall, but this isn't ideal. I can only imagine what a year or more of a mistKing system would do if the cage was next to a wall. Thoughts?

I ordered smallish magnets, and plan to use them to sandwich plastic to the outside of the cage where I want to keep protected.

I found this out as well. When I rebuild my cage I plan to do the back and half of the sides solid so I get enough airflow, but the water doesn't get everywhere.

I made a background for my cages out of a shower liner sheet, I don't know what it's called but it's plastic and both sides are waterproof. I guess it's what you would line the walls of a bathroom when installing a shower or bathtub and I found it in Home Depot. It comes in a 4 x 8 sheet that is really easily cut with an X-acto blade, so I made a background for all 4 of my 48" x 24" cages.

Since it comes in white, for aesthetic appeal I spray painted it a charcoal gray and it contrasts really nicely with the green of the plants and the light grayish branches. Also, since I have the cages side-by-side with translucent sheets of plastic between one and the other as visual dividers, I don't worry about side spray.

I rent too and this works to keep my walls dry. Although I haven't always had a background and my walls have always been fine. You have to be careful with how you angle the nozzle.

I just taped clear shower curtain liner ($2) cut to fit the cage back panel so it's super cheap, helps keep in humidity, protects the wall and you don't even notice it!
