Potential new Pygmy enclosure

I've had this enclosure planted for about a year and everything is thriving. I'd like to get some opinions from the experts here before getting any chams for it though. There is an established colony of sow bugs in in also.

Can you describe what you did as far as substrate and what plants you used. I have 4ft X 1ft and I would like to get started. I would also like to get a small species, just not sure which one or if I can even get them.

Thank you,

kire

Well I'd live there (if I was a pygmy!). Very nice with lots of hiding spots and highways. My only suggestion is to get rid of one of the lights. Some people use one for UVB, some don't use any. I think two is a bit of overkill -- just too bright in there (remember they're living close to the ground). May I ask what type of lights you have? Otherwise it looks great!

In so far as the substrate goes it is potting soil on top of a layer of sand on top of a layer of gravel - the same set up I used previously with Weiders and it worked great. As for the plants- there are spider plants (which need trimmed regularly), a couple of different species of ferns, a couple of small pothos (again-that have to be trimmed), as well as a ficus tree. I've used all of these plants in previous enclosures with very good success - just never for pygmies.
In so far as the lights go- they are Reptisun 5.0 bulbs, which I was thinking to change one out to a regular "plant" bulb, and maybe a 25w incandenscent for a "heat" light to provide different temp variations- though the more home work I do the more I think that average temps of around 73 degrees may be enough by themselves.

First of all I want to say nice look viv!
As a breeder I'd like to offer a couple suggestions.
-The layers of substrate should be fine. Just make sure you have a good 3-4 inches of soil above the sand. This gives females room to dig and lay.

-As for the temps... Just keep it in the 70's. They will be fine. Some people tend take care aboutthis a little too much which can be stressful keep specific temps. As long as it stays in the 70's they'll be fine. A maximum and minimum of 85 and 65 degrees are allowable temperature for no more than a day. Any longer and it maybe fatal. It's a good idea to have a fan and small 25watt heat source avaliable just in case.

-The plants should be fine. If you know the exact plants you can find safe plant list all over the Internet to compare them to. The same plants that are safe for old world chams will be safe for pygmies.

-It's nice to have a 5.0 UVB bulb for them. You don't have to have one but why not offer the best if possible. In they wild they will ge some UVB at some point and it doesn't hurt to give them the option.

-The last and most important thing I want to stress is always give them the OPTION! This meaning when you do your research you may read things that are conflicting like one "person or breeder" saying they d

This meaning when you do your research you may read things that are conflicting like one "person or breeder" saying they dont need something and another saying you do. Most of the time it's someone being cheap not wanting to spend money. Which isfine as pygmies are strong little guys. But if you have the meanings of offering it to them it's most likely better fr them to have it. If that makes any sense...Lol.

Sorry about the double post. I wrote it on my phone and it froze for a second and I tapped the send button twice. Haha

I've kept Weidershemii's in a less densely planted enclosure about 10 years ago, they did great, even discovered eggs at 1 point. The plants are tried and true, the soil is plenty deep - now I need to know who's got CB for sale, or who "typically" has a good rep for WC?
Any tips or heads up is appreciated. Thank you.

If you were in the so cal area that would be me. I really don't know any reps in Ohio. I don't ship and I only guarantee my cb. Any of the wc's I get arent from me. I pretty much middleman it from my importer. I charge people what I get my wc's for. All I ask for is to pick them up and keep me posted if they have any babies. As a breeder I like to potentially buy babies to add diversity or even take the eggs when people don't want them. If your going to order some I'd try Tikitiki reptiles or FLchams first. They both sell wc's and sometimes CB's. LLL Reptiles also sells WC's but never CB's. Last I checked they were all waiting to get some in. Hope that helps.
