I cannot tell if he has an issue or not, but his eye has been looking kind of weird. It looked like it had something in it yesterday and today it is just a bit cloudy, but it looks a little weird. See pics below. Any help would be appreciated.
The breeder who sold him to me told me that he has had other chams with that type of "droop" in the eye and said he has seen other chams like that. He said that he has seen no health issues with it and could not find any in his research. Does this sound pretty accurate? I trust him very much and he has 20 years of experience with breeding and keeping chams and he is a great guy.
Any more advice from anyone? I cannot post his "good side" right now. I will post more later..
It's hard to see what level of cloudiness might be in the eye itself but keep track of it and if it is truly cloudy then it may be infected. Fortunately if it is an eye infection, your vet can prescribe drugs like Gentamicin to clear it up pretty fast.
Here's a photo of my panther's healthy eye for comparison:
Wow. Thanks everyone for the advice. That's more what I am used to on this forum
He is acting very normal. He is pacing a bit, but I think that is more due to his reaching puberty, etc. His eye looks fine today. I am going to keep an eye on it (forgive the pun) and see what happens. He is hydrated for sure. I need to put the mister on extra during these months to keep the cage temp down in this heat (he is on a screened in porch). He is not misted too much, but definitely adequately. It did not look cloudy at all today. I will keep an eye and post some more pics if it is necessary. BTW, here is a recent pic of Igor. His colors are slowly coming in:
there is a little bit of difference from you previously posted picture and this last one that you posted. However it may just be that he needed to clean his eye out and the increased misting has allowed that to happen.
Like you said probably good idea to just keep an eye on him ( pun intended). Also I have been reading in the forum recently that Vit A can also lead to eye problems. do you think he might be deficient?
It looks different because it is the other eye I have heard various things about the vitamin A deficiency thing. How would I know if he is gettting enough? I do not supplement with it. I use herpivite, Miner-All O, and Reptical w/Do3.
Thanks again. I am keeping an eye on him. He looks o.k. today, but I am paranoid when it comes to my cham's health.
yup I did realize that was the a different eye.LOL
I was comparing your initial pics and the last one posted. initially I wanted to compare L to R photos. I think I see what you were talking about.
As far as tell if there is a vit A deficiency. shoot I really cant tell you. Most of the stuff I have read is typical "practice" of Reptile medicine. In other words it would be if you have a Sx try and see if it makes an improvement.
But it sounds like your guy is doing well. so I wouldn't even sweat that stuff.
