Possible Infection?

My panther cham's last shed was about five weeks ago now, he's 7 months old. From his last shed he was left with a small piece of skin on the top of his casque which I daily wiped with warm water on a cotton bud. It came off on its own but left behind black skin instead of green like the rest. He often stands upright on his top vine to allow him access to climb on the hood of his viv. But by doing so he has been catching this "black" skin and scratching it on the mesh. It's now gone white so I've started cleaning it daily again with warm salt water on a cotton bud to keep it clean. I'm going to phone the vets tomorrow but does anyone have any other suggestion as to what this is other than an infection? Also does anyone know on average how long he should be in inches from nose to tail tip? Thanks!

could it be possible that if his head is touching the mesh he is getting burned by the lights where the screen is hot?

I did think it could be a burn, but would it be white? And it's almost like the skin is peeling off around the mark. Seems odd how it's in the exact same place as where the dodgy bit of shed was.

I think that may be a 2nd degree burn that is gradually healing over. Would you post some pictures if you get a chance, and best of luck at the vets. Ruth

I will post some photos in the morning as I can't do it from my phone. If this is the case and it's a burn, can someone explain how I can elevate his basking light off the top of the viv? I have the cage around the light at the moment so it's not bulb on mesh. But I live in rented accommodation and can't drill hangers for the light off the walls or anything. Any suggestions would be great :)
