Possible Husbandry issue?(sp?)

black lights are NOT good for them - wrong kind of UVlight. Can be bad for their eyes. might be making him uncomfortable.

When they sleep, their skin cells relax - colors are relaxed. If he's showing different colors in the day, they're that way because they are not relaxed. A healthy, happy, comforatable veiled will show similar colors day and night - often, when excited and displaying (stress, but not always bad) their daytime colors will exceed their nighttiem, rest colors. a brown chameleon that is bright at night is brown not because that's his normal colors - there's something MAKING him stay brown.

So common is this, that people believe veileds are normally dull colors until fired up.

This guy was brown for over a year. Then he started to show occational brightness, but not all the time. I moved him to a wall mounted cage, up in the air, and he stayed like this till he died last summer. I don't have any pics of him before - he was too ugly, I didn't even consider taking a pic!

I forgot I had a fired up pic of him - this one sows him just after seeing a mirror. The orange lit up on him like nothing I've ever seen.

ok then, i think i must be the parrots then. . . and the Exo-Terra Night Glo bulb at night that is causing these dark browns and military colors during the day. here is a pic of him at night while sleeping yesterday.

birds are natural predators, and they are even parrots so that makes a topical bird with a sharp beak that probably is eying him too lol. my bet is the birds.as long as hes sleeping at night then the night light shouldn't do anything to him during the day. I honestly hate Exo terra brand. im not a fan of anything made by hagen. I have a choice at work either Zilla, or Hagen I choose zilla every time. they have a really really dark bulb called night black heat

Just from watching your video.....

Dump the 2.0 and get a grow light or normal household lamp for 'more light' in the cage.

Change out the 10.0 from exoterra for a Zoo Med 5.0.

Lights on for 12 hours, lights off for 12 hours.

NO
night time light, at all, ever. If your temps drop to the low 60s then get a ceramic heater. Night time temps in the mid 60's is fine for a juvi/adult veiled. If you HAD to.... you could let him get down into the mid to upper 50s...... but I wouldn't do that unless you HAD to. maintaining a mid 60's temp is a good idea.

Change your basking lamp to a lower wattage... 50w works well for the advice im about to give you...

Place the 5.0 and basking lamp, side by side. Put a vine under the two lamps at a distance of 7-8". Your veiled will come to the light to warm himself and to get his UVB.

All my chams sleep in a sleeping spot at night. In the morning they come to the basking spot to warm up for the morning... get misted... warm up some more and then eat and go about their day.

P.S. side by side like a doted (i) or side by side like (l.)

okay well i kind of have it like that for the spot lamp, but i need to move it more to the middle of the tube lamp on the side. I was also concerned about the foliage up top do you think its kind of bare anyone? I was thinking about adding a Ficus since they are now available in my local H.E.B. for $9. Should i add some fake plant stuff on the side of the cage to give more of a hiding place?

Try to hang some fake plants on the side of the cage... to give cover.... If you have a Ficus that can fill that cage... go for it... just trim it back so there is room for your cham to move...

This Ficus was almost 5 feet tall... but trimmed back and re potted it fits well into this 48" cage.

There is a pothos in the cage as well. This pic was taken just after it was trimmed.... so it is bare and a bit yellow cause I hadn't watered it well.

It is filling in now and growing some nice stuff

This plant was repotted and trimmed my Chamelisa aka: ChamEO

ok will do then im gonna pick up that ficus tomorrow when i get my BBQ stuff in the morning and i'll replant and bathe it tomorrow while fire is getting started:cool:

I dont see any sign of a burn at all. Lighting makes it hard to tell exactly what color he is. My first thought is its just fired up because theres a human with a video camera hanging around freaking it out.

+1 - I think he's just agitated/stressed by the human attention he's getting. Everything else looks really good!

i have personally had great success with Zilla lights living up to their 1 year marks. our exo terra lights at work die about 1 time a month =/

i think he's a good lookin cham :) perhaps he just has some darker coloring, ive seen that before. i saw your video on youtube......of your cham eating, do the crickets ever escape from that container? i always have crickets hopping out of the dish i use, and i find them in some not so fun places........any suggestions?

Never had an escapee. . .only time they leave it is when they get on a sticky tounge or they get a reprieve and i have to take em out for the night;)
