Poisoned Locusts? Topsoil?

I bought some new locusts the other day, and put them in an exo terra tank i had just cleaned out, with some older locusts i had remaining from the last batch i ordered.
The exo terra is glass with a mesh top with a small heat mat placed to the back at the top and a uv light on the front. The bottom of the tank is lined with newspaper and there are egg cartons and branches for the locusts to climb on.

Basically i put all the locusts in with progrub (dry calcium livefood feed?) and some washed supermarket green letuce, + a tub of top soil which i sprayed moist. within a few hours most of the locusts were twitching or on their sides and then died the next day?

Could it have been the top soil or the green lettuce, im assuming they have been poisoned and dont want to feed the remaining locusts to my cham.

Also i bought this top soil to top up my chams plant pot because he likes to eat the soil, for roughage? Now i am worrried about putting it in his plant pot, i havnt dun that yet. The top soil has tiny stones in it? I bought it instead of compost/fertiliser because i thought those would contain things that would poison my cham. I am really confused now if any of this is safe to use now? and what happened to the locusts?

Are the "Stones" in the top soil white? It may be plant food or Fertilizer. There may be some pest control or something in th soil it is all a possibility. A good solution for keeping the Cham out of the soil is to put river rocks in the pot covering the dirt. Make sure they are big enough that the Cham can not swallow them on accident.

I have seen crickets die when they get a hold of greens that have been sprayed. Maybe that has occurred in your case. Have you used the greens to feed the Locusts you had before introducing the new ones? If so you could probably rule that out.

If I was in your situation I would not use the soil just in case.
